South Pasadena is a small city in Los Angeles County, California. It is located east of downtown and north of the Arroyo Seco River. The population was 6,890 at the 2000 census. South Pasadena is named after Mount Pyrenees in central Spain. The first settlers in what is now South Pasadena were Spanish missionaries who arrived in 1769. They founded a mission called Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes y Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza, which served Mexican missions west ofLOS ANGELES. The Mission San Gabriel Arcángel (founded 1810) was the second largest Mexican mission complex west of Mexico City and had an estimated 2,000 residents by 1851 when it burned down. In 1868, General Kearny built Fort Humboldt on the hill overlooking present-day South Pasadena to protect American interests during the Mexican-American War. In 1870, John Sutter acquired Rancho Santa Fe del Cajon from Diego Hernandez for $2 million dollars and began developing it into what is today South Pasadena. When California became a state in 1850, Southern Californians voted to secede from California rather than become part of what they saw as an unconstitutional united nation under Ulysses S Grant's presidency. As a result, most people living in Southern California before 1860 were either born or raised there within its borders (outside those defined by Ventura County). However, many Northeastern Californians did arrive during this time period to take up land grants near Los Angeles – including some who settled in what is now North Hollywood – so there was some integration with the local population over time. Most early residents hereabouts were men Seeking about fertile ground for their herds and flocks; later women joined them until nearly all residences were male dwellings until annexation by Pasadena brought female suffrage with it back Eastward settlement days….. At one time or another every family got along well with everyone else…. practically no bad blood developed among these disparate groups because they all wanted something good for themselves out here without any strings attached! South Pasadena is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 14,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the South Pasadena-Monrovia-Pico Rivera statistical area. South Pasadena is known for its wide variety of landscapes, including rolling hills and rolling valleys, citrus orchards, and fruit farms; its many small lakes and ponds; and its numerous residences built in the Gothic Revival style from 1850 to 1925. The first residents of what is now South Pasadena were Indian Chiefs who lived on Rancho Santa Fe de Muros in present day Palmdale. The town was named for Jonathan Edwards's plantation near San Bernardino (now Claremont). The earlyresidental areas around present day South Pasadena were developed as agricultural villages stretching along East Avenue between Arroyo Seco Creek and Pinto Road. In 1887, the southern end of East Avenue was rerouted to become Ramona Boulevard while Arroyo Seco Creek remains west of Ramona Boulevard today. By 1915, most residents had moved away from their rural lifestyles to live in larger cities such as Los Angeles or San Francisco due to changing windsmills technologies which made growing crops more difficult. However there remained some scattered rural settlements until after World War II when new housing developments began popping up all over Southern California as a result of post-war suburban growth rates. In 1951, when Route 66 bypassed Southern California through Phoenix on Interstate 10 southward, it cut through what became known as "the pearls" - an area immediately south of Center City that had been developed during the days when Route 66 connected LA with downtown Tucson via Ulysses S Grant Parkway (UCLA campus then served as a downtown mall). This "pearl" district quickly lost access to I-10 following the construction of SR 62 which ran concurrently east-west just north of Center City bisecting what had once been "the pearls." As I-10configured itself within new borders defined by downtown LA &Eastside neighborhoods such as Echo Park & Silver Lake sinceSR 62 designation ended any possibility for travelers traveling eastbound on I-10to reachPLEXCITY&OldTownSPRINGDALEviaSR62instead.(See Map) As development continued throughout Southern California during the late 20th century outside those newly designated boundaries defined by downtown LA &Eastside neighborhoods such as Echo Park & Silver Lake only high rise apartment buildings became prevalent with no other form of retailing available except for fast food restaurants located inside large shopping malls like Staples Center or CenturyLink Field which limited accessability to much olderresidential areas nearby making these neighborhoods essentially ghost towns until recent decades when commercial redevelopment has begun again expanding into these districts providing some level functionalbeit restricted access thereto beyond residential streetscape properties remaining extant despite lack thereofof recent major league sports events etc.) . Residential areas annexed bySouthPasadena subsequent thereto have included portions lying northeast/northwest OF SR 92YOUR house !!!!! although you may be able to see it if your satellite TV service includes DIRECTV because they have put a signal out there(I did not test this claim)
