The first people who lived in what is now South Pasadena were Native Americans. In 1860 they moved again when they purchased from Jepson Rancho San Pedro Rey some miles southwest of present-day South Pasadena on what is now Pico Boulevard. From that time until 1910 no one ever built anything in South Pasadena other than houses for themselves or for use by friends or family members. In 1990s many people decided to move into South Pasadena because it had good schools and great neighborhoods with friendly people. Today there are over 60 businesses in town including several banks, law firms, real estate companies as well as restaurants, bars and even a movie theater! One thing that has always been popular about South Pasadena is its easy access to beaches like Huntington Beach and Dana Point which are just minutes away by car or public transportation!
