South Pasadena, California is a city located in San Diego County, California. The population was 20,786 at the 2010 census. The city was founded on November 3, 1894 by citizens of South Pasadena and La Jolla who petitioned for its establishment as a town. It became an incorporated municipality on December 4, 1907. On January 1, 1916 South Pasadena merged with Otay Mesa to form the new City of Otay Mesa. The original name for South Pasadena was "Pasadena". In 1896 Mexican immigrants had settled in what is now southern San Diego County and began to rename their properties after places in Mexico City or other Mexico-related areas (such as Tecolotepec). One such property owner was José Clemente Morejon who renamed his land "Pasadena" after his home state of Texas - another old Mexican settlement nearby also became known as Dallas Park afterDallas,Texas became a U.S.-owned territory following the Mexican War (1846-48). In 1911 Los Angeles banned all towns within its boundaries because it felt that too many small municipalities were infringing on the growth and development of larger cities. Accordingly, the City Council authorized Mayor George Bowman to create an act Requesting That Every Town within Our Limits be Dissolved And Reorganized into Municipal Districts Which Are To Be named After Local Legends Or Historical Figures Who Have Sympathetically Aided Our Growth Till This Time Or When Their Demands shall Be Met If They Do Not Object To Being So Named; And Which Are hereby Described As follows: "Forasmuch As We Believe That All Good and Virtue Can only Come From a League Of like Minds); Therefore We authorizes The Mayor To Grant Such Dislocation." On November 3rd 1894 South Pasadena's first incorporation occurred when 40 residents met to vote on whether they wanted to become a town or not. voting results showed that majority of people support becoming an incorporated municipality so they did just that on December 4th 1907 thanks largely to help from then Mayor George Bowman and Supervisor James Fenton. At this time there were just 9 families living in South Pasadena proper while over 50% of its population came from outlying areas including La Jolla which had been annexed by South Pasadena in 1906. The early years were very difficult for Southern Californians living near Kingman Air Force Base due to World War I shortages in materials needed for war production however things started improving once hostilities ended and prices dropped along with military production demand across America dueto inflation caused by global conflict/exchange rates changes throughout the late 1800s & early 1900s

The area now known as South Pasadena was part of the Rancho San Antonio Mexican land grant given to José Gabriel Arcángel in 1827. In 1853, Englishman Alfred Moody purchased the Rancho San Antonio from Mexico for $1 million. In 1860, John Sutter founded the city of Sacramento on the former rancho.
