The community rapidly expanded due to increased agricultural production from dairy farms and coking coal mines along with new housing developments such as Northgate Terrace (now known as Meadowood Drive) and Spring Valley (now known as Villa Park Drive). By 1915 there were over 1,000 residents in South Gate Village; this number grew to 3,500 by 1930 when active farming stopped completely and most residents turned to industry or other services provided by their villages. It wasn’t until after World War II that heavy industry began arriving to South Gate Village; these days it’s home to many large factories including Samsung Electronics Co., Intel Corporation (in addition to Qualcomm) and Mastercard Financial Services Incorporated which operate major financial complexes within the community limits while also maintaining several thousand jobs around town employing locals throughout much of each day outside their businesses hours during weekdays when business isn’t affecting employment rates within town limits; all while still enjoying access to basic public amenities like schools/parking/water/restaurants etc.; something that cannot be found anywhere else within 200 miles radius! The first Europeans to arrive in what would become South Gate were Spanish missionaries who traveled through the area between 1769-1772. A rancho was granted to Juan Bautista Alvarado by Governor Manuel Nieto on November 3, 1775, just south of present day South Gate Boulevard and east of Orange Avenue. The mission buildings still stand today: Pueblo de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción (now part of Cathedral Park), Convento Franciscano del Niño Jesús (formerly part of Holy Cross School), and Post Office Annex which served from 1907 until 1959 as the home for Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's office before it moved to its current location at Wilshire Boulevard & La Brea Avenue in downtown LA In 1874 James W Dixon platted what would become known as "Southgate" on land grants given him by Mexican President Rafael Morongo during their visit to Southern California that year. In addition to Dixon's original town squarericthe platting also included industrial areas now within the boundaries of Northridge as well as residential neighborhoods now within Riverside County
The first known permanent settlement in what is now South Gate, California was made by the Spanish in 1769. The area that would become South Gate was part of Rancho San Luis Obispo, which was granted to José Francisco de Anza by Mexican President Felipe Vásquez on November 15, 1776. Juan Bautista de Anza and his party arrived at San Diego Bay on December 2, 1769, and began the trek up the coast to California. They were met by Manuel Nieto and other Missionaries who brought them food and water until they reached present-day downtown San Diego on January 14, 1770.
