holster companies were established in South Gate, California in the early 1800s. The first holster company was Winchester and it was located on Main Street. By 1892, Holster Company had moved to Fourth and Mission Streets and by 1899 it had moved to First and Mission Streets. In 1902, Colt Firearms Corporation (now Colt) opened a factory in South Gate which produced handguns under the name of "Pursuit". Pursuit pistols were designed for law enforcement use and they featured a detachable magazine, an extended handlebar stock, and a pistol grip that made them easier to hold. In 1906, Winchester began producing revolvers under the name of "Winchester Model 6". These revolvers featured a 4" barrel with a 3-inch bbl., checkered grips, and an adjustable rear sight. From 1912-1914 American Arms Corporation (later American Armory) manufactured pistols at their plant on Sixth Street in South Gate. American Arms pistols were known as "American Eagle" handguns because they bore the eagle logo on both the frame and grip panels. In 1923-1924 Nazi Germany produced copies of firearms called Browning Hi-Power Pistols which were exported to Southgate as part of military procurement efforts during World War II. At some point before 1945 Gunpei Iwasa developed this design into what is now known as the Glock pistol series which became available for purchase in North America starting in 1984.

South Gate, California is a small town located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. South Gate is part of the Victorville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a small post office in 1890 and grew to include several businesses including a smelter and tannery, an grocery store, and two churches. By 1920, South Gate had grown to its current size of 597 residents. The local economy has been centered around agriculture since the early days of the community. Today, Southgate is home to a variety of businesses including CVS Pharmacy, TJMaxx Supercenter, Ford dealership, Safeway supermarket, Burger King restaurant and Home Depot store. One of the most notable aspects of Southgate's economy is its strong ties with the Victorville Unified School District which hasBoys/Groups Middle School (grades 8-12), Girls/Teens Basketball (JV) Gymnasium (grades 9-12), High School (grades 11-13) and Adult Health & Physical Education classes for students in grades PreK-5th grade (.7 miles from school).

The settlement was named after Saint George and the dragon because of its location on the border of Mexico and California. The population of South Gate peaked at 10,000 in 1860 but declined following variousouse economic decline and associated violence. In 1907 it merged with neighboring Riverside to form Riverside-Southgate Municipal District which nonetheless experienced successive declines until it merged withOntario in 1963 to form Ontario-Southgate Municipal District. In recent years South Gate has experienced significant growth due to its proximity to both Riverside County's metropolitan areas and other major city centers around Southern California such as Los Angeles and Anaheim. This growth has led to increased employment opportunities for employees of local businesses within South Gate itself as well as outside of town via business ventures such as online retailing, real estate development, tourism and agricultural production. This growing trend has also helped contribute to an increase in property values within South Gate itself; increasing access for residents to quality affordable housing options while preserving its unique character that has made it one of Southern California's most desirable communities.
South Gate was founded in 1847 as a small French-owned town on the south side of San Francisco. It was renamed South Gate after its incorporation into the City of San Francisco.
