Gun targets have been a part of South Gate, California for over seventy years. The first target shooting club in the town was founded in 1915. From that time until 1978, it was the only place in town where people could shoot pistols and shotguns. The first handguns were imported into South Gate from Nevada in 1907, and the first rifle rifles were imported from Oregon in 1911. The use of handguns and rifles within South Gate began to slowly die out beginning around 1945 due to prohibition laws in most states at that time. However, throughout the 1970s and 1980s, there was a resurgence of interest in handgun target shooting due to new legislation allowing concealed carry licenses across state lines. Today’s Target Shooting Club is one of the oldest continuously operating gun clubs in California with over 350 members who participate annually in Pistol & Shotgun drills as well as numerous other activities including trap shoots, air pistol events, skeet tournaments and more.

The first public shootings in South Gate took place on October 15, 1868. A group of men and boys shooting rifles at a game of paintball came into contact with two other groups of men and boys, who began to fight. The first shots were fired by the men in the second group, killing one boy and wounding six others. On December 12, 1868, three people were shot dead inside a saloon near South Gate. This was the first fatal shooting in the town. In 1870, a band of robbers called the "Raiders" attacked several businesses in South Gate. One business owner was shot and killed; his son was wounded and helped protect his father's business from being looted. In 1872, an American Indian named Joseph Blackwater killed two white men on horseback outside of South Gate while vigilante justice was taking hold in California after the discovery of gold rushes throughout California. In response to Blackwater's murder spree, local sheriff John Sutter organized a cavalry unit to track down and bring justice for Blackwater's victims. South Gate, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 83,651 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in San Bernardino County and the second-largest city in Southern California. South Gate was founded by Anglo-Americans in 1849 as a small town on the Sandyford Rancho. In 1871, it became an incorporated municipality and remained so until 1972 when it became part of Riverside County. The current mayor of South Gate is Donny Kapp. The first permanent residents of what is now South Gate were Anglo-Americans who had come to southern San Bernardino Valley from central California during the Gold Rush of 1848. They named their small town Sandyford after one of their own families' farms near Redlands Junction in Orange County where they had settled some time earlier. Over time, other settlers arrived and new towns were built: North Park (1872), Eastvale (1901), Westvale (1905), and Santa Anita (1934). In 1871, South Gate became an incorporated municipality with a population of about 100 people when its citizens voted to do so over objections from east Riverside County which wanted to remain unincorporated because it saw itself as being better situated for commercial development than South Gate. At that time, south Riverside county was largely agricultural with few developed areas aside from a scattering of small businesses around Simi Hills and Claremont villages on the eastern edge of town%. By 1972, however, suburban growth in southern Riverside county had become more prevalent and elected officials realized that incorporation would not provide enough economic development opportunities for their constituents given that annexation into adjoining counties would result in even less land available for them to develop subdivide or sell! So incorporation did not happen until 1978 when then Mayor Donny Kapp pressured his fellow mayors into adopting it following a letter he received from then Governor Jerry Brown challenging Riverside's decision not to annex neighboring counties! From there on out until 2002 when then Mayor Tom Bradley repealed incorporation due to lack of evidence that any benefits had been realized by doing so despite assertions made by proponents thereof – south Riverside county has seen rapid growth thanks largely to annexation!!! As mentioned before, south Riverside county has seen rapid growth thanks largely to annexation onto neighbouring counties; this has included substantial housing developments such as Ramada Inn & Suites Encino / La Quinta Inn & Suites Hanover Park mall adjacent to Interstate 15 exit 181A/Riverside Drive across from Staples Center; anchored by Macy's department store relocated FROM downtown LAX TOEncino mall since 1995 Southgate also contains significant amounts of industry including automotive parts supplier Hagerty Inc., aerospace manufacturer Boeing Co., electronic component supplier Linear Technology Corporation (LTC) - one section containing 3 major plants - information technology services provider Oracle Corporation - Qualcomm Incorporated satellite modem manufacturing facility - water bottling plant operated by PepsiCo LLC - several biomedical companies including Eli Lilly & Company'sphase III clinical trials testing human leukocyte antigen vaccine candidates against Takata Corp.'s airbag inflators - real estate firms such as Cushman & Wakefield LLP have developed skyscrapers overlooking I-15 freeway exits including One World Trade Center which opened in 2007 just northwest of downtown Encino

South Gate was founded in 1879 by James W. Hill and his wife, Nellie. The settlement was named after the San Gabriel River that runs through it. It was first a small farming community with a population of around 25 people. In 1886, South Gate became the county seat for Los Angeles County and remained so until 1959. The town's growth came about because of its location on the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, which made it easily accessible to goods arriving from inland China and other parts of Asia. This influx of wealth led to increased development in South Gate, including the construction of a number of commercial buildings and homes. One such example is Hill's Block, also known as "The Queen's Building." The structure features an octagonal pagoda-style roof, marble steps leading up to it, and two white-stoned turrets at each side. In 1924, South Gate merged with neighboring Hermosa Beach to form what is now called Hermosa Beach-Southgate Village. At this point, most residents still lived in their individual homes or businesses within South Gate while some began moving into more modern structures located elsewhere withinHermosa Beach-Southgate Village. Over time though, many residents chose to settle down within South Gate itself and began what has come to be known as its "OldTown" style of living characterized by Colonial Revival architecture dating back to the early 1800s.
In 1849, the Mexican government ceded California to Great Britain in a treaty. In 1850, the United States acquired California from Mexico and began to develop it as a land grant system. The first area of what is now California were granted land at South Gate in 1851.
