South Gate, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 7,853 at the 2010 census. South Gate is located on the border of Kern and Riverside Counties and it is part of the Visalia-Porterville metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now South Gate were Native Americans who lived near Mission San Gabriel Arcángel and Mission San Fernando de la Union. In 1851, land grants were made to Captain George Goodwin and his brother Edward Goodwin for 640 acres (250 hectares). Captain Goodwin used the grant to build a home called "Goodwin's Station" which still stands today. In 1857, Samuel Morse donated land to the town for a school. When classes started in November of that year, only 8 students could be accommodated due to lack of space at the old mission building. The new school building was completed in 1858 and named after Samuel Morse himself. The first post office was established in Southgate on May 10th, 1861 by Hiram Sutter with mail being delivered from Rancho Cucamonga until 1862 when Ulysses S Grant became President and postal service was moved to Sacramento. The number of people living in South Gate increased rapidly with many farmers moving into the area during this time as well as builders who started up businesses such as hardware stores, florists, bookstores etcetera. Many homes were built during this time including one which still stands today called “Old Home Place” which once had 4 bedrooms/3 bathrooms with an attics that could hold 100 lbs (45 kg) of clothes! During World War II many residents served in the military including Air Force General James Arnold who resided here for several years before he moved back to Southern California where he later died from leukemia at age 73 years old on October 2nd, 1990 at Reid Army Medical Center near El Centro CA After WWII there wasn't much growth or development until about 1960 when some families decided to move out into adjacent townships because they found that prices for farmland had gone up so high within south gate itself (.50% per annum). hesitation surrounding changes taking place outside of south gate led some people back inside during this time while others like Mayor Herb Weisberg decided it would be more important focus on preserving what little remained while looking towards redevelopment opportunities down Highway 395 through Northgate into newer housing developments west of downtown Visalia . After much discussion between Mayor Weisberg and his staff regarding potential redevelopment opportunities they came up with a list 3 potential redevelopment projects which included: Gateway Village Plaza which would contain senior living units/retirement villages; Stadium Heights which would include a large shopping mall featuring restaurants/cafés; and Canyon View Village which would consist mainly of single family homes

South Gate, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 27,643 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The history of South Gate dates back to 1849 when John Cranch and his family settled on Rancho San Bernardino de Anza just east of present-day South Gate. In 1856, Mexican land grants were made available for homesteading in what is now Southern California by President Porfirio Diaz. A year later, John Cranch's brother-in-law, James Irvine built a small adobe courthouse and store on the site that became Southgate Village. In 1861, after Confederate General Robert Ewell was defeated at First Battle of Bullitown Station near Pasadena, his army retreated through nearby San Bernardino Mountains into Owens Valley. General Don Carlos Altamira followed them and foundered upon reaching South Gate on July 24 while moving supplies to Fort Tejon; Altamira's men were interned here until March 1862 when they relieved the Union garrison at Fort Blythe punting fleet off Point Mugu on Empire Bayou opposite Moriarty Landing (now part of East Los Angeles). In 1886 Congressman James Wickersham from Los Angeles moved from Beverly Hills to become its first U.S. Representative; he lived in an old house on University Avenue that served as his office until 1907 when he moved into the new Capitol building in downtown LA which still stands today across from Dodger Stadium North lot #1 (formerly home of Hollywood High School). This period saw dramatic changes with many leading citizens moving away including Judge Jens Christensen who relocated to Arlington Heights IL where he founded one of America’s premiere law firms before dying there in 1916; multi millionaire developer Harry Chandler bought much acreage south of town during this time and development continued apace with numerous homes being built along State Route 38 between 1909 and 1913 now known as Chavez Ravine Park & West Side Highway (SR 38) - one such example being Chatsworth Place located adjacent to what is now USC campus
On October 24, 1846, General Manuel Micheltorena succeeded to the Mexican presidency after his predecessor Antonio López de Santa Anna was ousted in a bloodless coup. He immediately began to implement policies that would modernize Mexico and prepare it for independence from Spain. On November 16, 1846, he decreed the National Constitution of Mexico which established a bicameral legislature with an Assembly of Deputies (the lower house) made up of citizens who were elected by popular vote and a Senate (the upper house) composed of noblemen appointed by the president. The National Constitution also created new political parties and defined elections as general referenda in order to insulation against election fraud. Micheltorena also reformed the army by creating a professional corps called "The Army of Independence" and ordering its commanders to fight on behalf of the Mexican people instead of serving under Spanish monarchs. In January 1847, he announced his candidacy for president at the 1848 Mexican presidential election but was defeated by Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. Micheltorena resumed his law career until 1850 when he returned to politics full-time as governor of Veracruz during the brief period following Santa Anna's successful return to power. In 1852, he served as ambassador to France where he successfully lobbied for Mexico's entry into Confederation of South American Nations (CASA). UponMexico's formal admission into CASA on July 1, 1862, Micheltorena became its first foreign minister. In 1865-1866 Micheltorena served as president designate for Ampudia Province after Don José María Morelos was named interim president due to lacklustre results from the previous term in office caused by Schurman Matute’s hold over government institutions such as education and finance. After Morelos’ failed attempt at forming a government within two months and overwhelming military resistance against continued opposition led by General Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Micheltorena returned home sick with tuberculosis before dying on October 4th at Tepeyac Hospital in Puebla City aged 57 years old under circumstances still unknown although some suggest that he may have contracted cholera while visiting Ixmiquilán during this time frame while attending public ceremonies related thereto... A few weeks later Chávez took office as interim president until elections could be held which were finally held on November 15th 1861 without any progress being made towards achieving constructive change despite promises given anteriorly
