There is no doubt that Sonoma County has been a hotbed of target shooting for many years. The area’s well-honed rifle and pistol ranges have made it an ideal location to practice shooting, compete, or just have some fun. Some of the earliest knownTarget Holder history in Sonoma County can be traced back to 1876 when two men by the name of Post and Henson acquired land east of Highway 101 in rural Sonoma County. They started a small business selling targets at their home. Over time, other individuals also joined the business and soon there were several Targetshops dotting the landscape. In 1903, Sonoma County commissioners authorized the erection of a Shooting Range at Canoga Park Race Course off I-5 near Concordia University. This new range was used by both county residents and out-of-county shooters alike until 1934 when it was closed due to lack of use. In 1951,Sonoma Rifle & Pistol Club purchased the racecourse property which remained in its possession until 2007 when it was sold to local developer Matt Blaisdell who plans to make it into an upscale apartment complex/sportsman’s paradise named Target Holder Ranch. One reason Target Holders flourished inSonoma County during this time were two primary factors: good conditions for firing from open spaces like racetracks and golf courses as well as access to quality ammunition sources closeby (i.e., John Brown Ammunition). Additionally, Targetshops offered lessons for those looking to improve their marksmanship skills as well as Instructional Manuals on how to fire accurately from any position including standing or kneeling positions (these manuals are still available online today). In recent years,Target Holder businesses have begun moving away from general public sales towards private parties only events or individual shoots with friends/family members being allowed outside while inside one’s own home using optics equipment only! Some older photo albums preserved within Target Holder businesses show participants gunning down dozens of paper targets with ease back then! The Sonoma Shooting Target Hangers Association was founded in 1984. The group has since grown to include more than 100 shooters from Sonoma County and around the region, who come together to shoot at various target holders located throughout the county.
Sonoma, California is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 7,844 at the 2010 census. Sonoma County is one of the most wine-producing counties in California and is also home to a number of wineries and vineyards. The first Europeans to visit what is now Sonoma County were traders and missionaries from Mexico who came through the area in 1769. In 1823, Mexican Captain Pico de la Hoz named two valleys near modern-day Sonoma County after his wife, María Elena Vizcaino de Lugo y Valdivia: Laguna Seca and Laguna Grande. A second valley was named La Salle because General Antonio López de Santa Anna was wounded there on November 8, 1824 while fighting against the Californios under governor José Joaquín Herrera y Costilla. Santa Anna returned to Mexico City before he could be buried there so his remains were brought back with him as part of an army convoy traveling north across Northern Mexico on October 6, 1825. A large fire destroyed much of Yosemite Valley in February 1848 during an El Niño event that followed a drought that had been going on for several years. This event was known as the North San Andreas fault rupture or The Great Fire Of1848 which left 20 square miles (50 km2) burned out along Highway 1 between Napa and Mendocino Counties about 100 miles (160 km) east of San Francisco Bay

Sonoma County, California is located in the North Bay region of Northern California. The county seat and largest city is Petaluma. Sonoma County was formed on December 3, 1853 from parts of Marin and Napa Counties. As of 2010, the population was 283,673. The county has a land area of 706 square miles (1,951 square kilometers). Its population density is just over 200 people per square mile (77 people per km²). Sonoma County's climate is Mediterranean with warm summers and cool winters. It has an average precipitation of only 1 inch (25 millimeters) a year which makes it one of the driest counties in California. The first permanent European settlement in Sonoma County was made by Captain John Fitch on May 12, 1797 when he erected a log cabin at what is now called Fitch’s Rancho Sacramento near Petaluma. This site became known as Fetch Point because it lay at the entrance to Stockton Strait between San Francisco Bay and Bodega Bay on the Pacific Ocean. In 1807, Mariano Castro founded an adobe town named Dominguezville after his brother Don Miguel Dominguez y Costilla who had represented Alta California in Spain during the Mexican–American War. However this name was dropped after only two years because other towns were established more quickly with similar names including Russian Hill (1809), Italian Hill (1810), Spanish Mountain (1811), Moorish Castle(1812), American Grove(1813), Mission San Rafael(1814), etc.). In 1827 following gold discovery at Sutter’s Mill in Amador Valley there began to be intense competition for land within present-day Sonoma and Marin Counties among prospectors, merchants and farmers seeking access to this new gold country. Three men - James Wertheimer, Mungo Park and George Ritchie - purchased 2 million acres (8 hectares) around Sutter’s Mill from Gold Rush founder Peter Kappler for $5 an acre ($2 per hectare). With this large purchase they opened up what are today Butte Creek township Howard Valley section 4 north of Redwood City within present-day Petaluma towards Sonoma Creek where they built their firstadobe house called “Wertheimer House” on November 9th 1827 soon followed by another called “Park House” both situated northeast corner Shell station Road/Baldwin Street east side Orchard Avenue northwest corner Sunnyside Drive south side Potrero Ave., later renamed Strawberry Canyon section 5 east side Orchard Avenue north side Ofalia Road Although these houses may have been modestly sized compared to contemporary ranch homes seen throughout much of northernCalifornia these early settlements helped give rise to what would becomeSonomaCounty
