In the early 1800s, Soledad was a small frontier town in California. It was known for its rifle ranges and its gunsmiths. The town also had a large population ofshooters. In 1872, Soledad's first shooting range opened up. The range consisted of two barrels each with a .36 caliber bullet. At that time,Soledad was the only town in California that had such a range. There were also several other shooting ranges in the area at that time. By 1907, Soledad had an annual firearms show which attracted many shooters from throughout California and beyond. At this show, some of the first handguns were exhibited including an Enfield rifle having a revolving cylinder magazine that held 10 rounds. This revolver was called the "Babalu". In 1912,Soledad became one of the terminus points on what is now Highway 99 south of San Diego for mail delivery between San Diego and Los Angeles County (then part of Mexico). This allowed residents to send their rifles and shotguns directly to their friends and family back home without going through City Hall or county government buildings in downtown San Diego! The next year saw another big change when it became legal to purchase weapons in California! With this new law came eligibility for open-carry Carry permits (also called Open Carrying Laws). This gave people who felt comfortable with carrying their rifles outside their homes the opportunity to do so without fear of being arrested or scolded by local police officers! The 1913 Show at which handguns made their debut included six different models from three manufacturers - Smith & Wesson, Colt revolvers and Remington Arms pistols - as well as over 100 specimens from around the world! Gunsmiths from all over Northern California attended this show to learn how to make all sorts of firearms including rifles, shotguns and handguns - some even making their own products! Later on in 1915, open carry Pistol Laws were passed allowing anyone over 21 years old with an acceptable permit (which usually included owning a handgun) to carry any pistol anywhere within reason without getting arrested or fined! After hearing about these laws from his friend across the bay who owned a gun store, John Madden set up his own gun shop right next door to city hall in 1916 just as Open Carrying Laws were becoming more common! These days we know him as Mayor Donahue because he played an important role supporting Open Carry Law during those early years!

The first post office opened at Soledad on October 20, 1851, and remained open until 1912. The first store in Soledad was built in 1861 by John Bendixen. The town has been majority Hispanic for most of its history with only a tiny percentage being white. As of 2000, about 60% of the population were Latinos and 30% were whites (according to2010 U.S Census). In 1957, when California became a state, Soledad became one of the first townships in Los Angeles County to be annexed into the new state! This event madeSoledad one of the largest minority communities in Southern California at that time! In 2002, Soledad also celebrated its centennial year with a series of events including historical lectures, art exhibits and a parade through downtown streets NULLIFIED by Sheriff Tom Allman because he felt that they would celebrate too much Mexican culture without reference to United States History! Today, Soledad is known as an agricultural community with over 80% Farms producing produce such as dairy products, fruits and vegetables; eggs; pork; beef; chicken; ducklings; turkey legs etc., as well as many other items not typically found near urban areas like carpeting or plumbing supplies! There are also numerous small businesses dotting every inch of this picturesque little town centre - everything from tailors to farmers markets - making it easy for residents to get what they need without leaving their homes!
In 1846, the Owens Valley was purchased by John S. Wells from Joshua Clayton and his wife Eliza. The Wellses were speculators in the valley, prospecting for coal and other minerals. They named their new town after their friend Soledad (Spanish: "Sola"). The first post office was established in 1847, and the first store was opened in 1851. In 1865, Soledad became a part of Imperial County and was renamed Tomales on January 1, 1886.
