Soledad, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of Northern California. It is named for the Soledad Mountains, which are located in the town's center. The Soledad Mountains are part of the Kings Canyon National Park. The town was founded in 1878 by Mormon pioneers who were seeking to find a place to start anew after leaving Nauvoo, Illinois. The town was platted on what is now State Route 12. In 1906, it was renamed for Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna and his wife, María Eugenia Antónieta Gomez de la Huerta y Núñez de Cámpora y Pinedo y Ramos. In 1958, Soledad became an incorporated city. In 1978, it was again renamed for Santa Anna and his wife; this time it became known as Santa Clara County's largest city with a population over 100,000 people. As an incorporated city,Soledad has control over its own government and zoning ordinances that set limits on its development potential as well as its ability to levy taxes or borrow money from municipalities within its boundaries without needing approval from City Council members. Soledad has two high schools: Soledad High School and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish High School (OLGPH). OLGPH offers classes in pre-Kindergarten through twelveth grade along with related electives such as music appreciation and science fiction/fantasy writing programs that focus on hands-on learning opportunities around technology like 3D printing and robotics. Soledad, California is an incorporated city located in Kern County, California. The population was 26,922 at the 2010 census. Soledad has a history dating back to 1847 when it was named for José Maria de Soledad y Vega who ranched on the east side of town. In 1870, the City of Soledad was created from parts of Rancho Viejo and Rancho San Francisco. The first mayor ofSoledad was Lorenzo Wooten. In 1932, Mexican Americans formed the Mexicali American Citizens League to oppose Prohibition in California. In 1934, attorney Jorge Cabrera became Mayor after winning a special election against incumbent Harry Bendixen. From 1935 until 1938, Mayor Cabrera successfully lobbied the state government to pass a bill legalizing alcoholic beverages within the city limits without having to go through county approval or ballot Measure AA which would have required voter approval for any such changes within city boundaries. On December 10th 1937 by popular vote Proposition 266 (the "City Limits Amendment") passed by a wide margin with over 60 percent of the vote cast including over 25 percent from Spanish-American residents living in and around Soledad as well as other Mexican Americans throughout Kern County who voted overwhelmingly against Prohibition statewide that year! In 1942 during World War II local businesses began producing silk thread for military uniforms made from Japanese silkworm cocoons. This venture led to increased business for local stores and eventually helped establish downtown Soledad as a major commercial center during wartimeSouthern Californias largest boomtown era since post-World War II growth rates had been much slower due largely to restrictive zoning ordinances which limited development near reservoirs and agriculture land used for cattle ranching/livestock raising rather than housing developments geared towards servicemen and their families while also prohibiting most retail stores (except department store anchors) from opening up shop adjacent to military bases located in Los Angeles County; this caused significant unemployment among local civilians unable or unwilling to leave their homes during wartime shortages caused by restrictions on production not only at home but abroad thanks in part to Japan's entry into World War II though its own economic sanctions against America being implemented parallel thereto). On October 9th 1951 voters approved proposition 543 (the "Lenz Act"), which repealed all prohibition laws within city limits except those pertaining specifically to intoxicating liquors while creating new regulations governing related tax collection and consumption subject primarily to speakeasy-type restaurants operating within city limits serving pre-packaged liquor products only instead of wine or beer like previously allowed while continuing other existing regulations regulating employment opportunities, public health provisionality etc.; this measure repealed all prior alcohol prohibition measures inside city limits effective November 3rd 1951 retrospectively thereby setting off what would become known as phase 2 DUI Prohibition Measures effectively beginning February 1st 1952 when all pre-existing DUI regulation provisions were terminated thereby giving effect thereto repealatories section 793(a) thereof enacted two months earlier providing specified exceptions whereby bona fide educational institutions offering classes leading directlyto drunk driving defense may operate under present conditions notwithstanding current law governing similar operations conducted hereinby before such institutions open so long as employees employed therein are duly licensed drivers undergoing instruction providedSuch schools are exempt under present rules provide no later than July 1st 2022 these same colleges shall be able to operate FORECLOSURE PREPARATIONS ONLY if they comply with all applicable State & federal safety requirements set forth hereinbefore including fingerprinting & criminal background check procedures).).
