In 1860, Captain Sutter's son Alvarado built a house on what is now East 2nd Street near Main Street in Soledad. This house is also known as the Sutter House Museum. In 1875, Captain Sutter's grandson George Higginson Jr., took over his father's business and began making rifles for both military and civilian use. He continued this business until 1898 when he sold it to Mr. Jens Jensen from Denmark who continued making rifles until 1903 when he died intestate (not having left any money). After Jens Jensen's death, his rifle company was taken over by his brother Lars Jensen who continued making rifles until 1906 when he sold it to Einar Petersen who continued making rifles until 1912 when he too died intestate without leaving any money behind. The rifle company that Alvarado constructed in 1860 became part of the city government ofSoledad after California became an independent country circa 1850s which made guns more accessible for civilians and gave rise to new arms manufacturers such as Smith & Wesson Company in 1859 which started production of revolvers in America while gunmakers like Colt were producing pistols only starting in 1861).
Soledad, California is located in the Central Valley of California and it is bordered by Fresno County to the north, Kern County to the east, and San Joaquin County to the south. The city was founded on October 3rd, 1853 by Capt. John Sutter as part of his land grant from the Mexican government. Soledad has a population of over 120,000 people and it is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in California. The city is known for itsadobe architecture and its Spanish-speaking culture which can be seen in its restaurants, local stores, and even in some of its churches.

Soledad is a small town in Kern County, California, located on the banks of the Sacramento River. The population was 9,593 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Fresno Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as an agricultural settlement in 1879 near what is now Tulare Valley and later became known for its rich silver mining history. The first post office was established in 1881 and Soledad's industry quickly made it one of the most prosperous communities in Kern County. The area's first school, built on a ranch east of town, opened in 1883. In 1907, Soledad incorporated as a village and soon became a thriving commercial center with industries such as wagon manufacturing and printing publications. From 1916 to 1978, Soledad was home to the world-famous Akeley enrichment plant which manufactured uranium enrichment technology for America's nuclear weapons production program during World War II. After ceasing operations at Akeley in 1978,Soledad slowly declined but has seen some resurgence over recent years due to its proximity to larger cities including Fresno and Visalia and its many cultural attractions like churches and museums.
The town of Soledad, California was founded in 1853 by Don Miguel Alvarado. The name is Spanish for "peaceful place." It was named after the Monterey Peninsula, which is located in southern California.
