Although Solana Beach struggled during World War II due to its distance from combat areas, it experienced some growth after the war. In 1947, Solana Beach became part of Camp Pendleton which helped swell the population by 20%. This increase in population caused problems for both Solana Beach and Camp Pendleton as there was not enough housing stock available to meet demand. In order to solve this problem, Coronado Development Corporation bought two parcels of land adjacent to Camp Pendleton and began construction on what would become known as Park Boulevard. Park Boulevard became one ofSolanaBeach's most important streets because it allowed people who wanted easy access to everything within walking distance without having to take public transportation or drive long distances. Park Boulevard also served as a meeting spot for local businesses which led to development along Park Boulevard including restaurants, stores, and offices over time. Despite these challenges, Solanasbeach managed to maintain its status quo until 1994 when it lost touch with larger communities around it due largely To its isolationist attitude towards modern technology which kept many residents behind computer screens all day long instead of engaging with their surroundings . Despite this lack of change over time, some aspects that have remained unchanged includeSolanasbeach's strong ties with surfing culture which continues today through amateur contests called "Surfing Open House" held at various locations along Park Boulevard every year

The town incorporated in 1916 and was named after the Spanish word "sol" which means sun. In 1951, the United States Postal Service moved Solana Beach from its original mailing location on the Pacific Coast to an inlandmailing office in nearby Del Mar. In 1966,Solana Beach became a city and was renamed after City Manager Donny Hathaway.
