Gun magazines have a long and proud history in Solana Beach, California. The first issue of the now defunct "Solana Beach Review" was published on December 12, 1892. Gun magazine subscriptions began to grow in popularity throughout the early 1900s as shooters started to demand more comprehensive coverage of firearms than could be found in just a few short issues of a local newspaper. In 1911, Solana Beach became the first city in California to pass an ordinance regulating handguns. This law allowed for the registration and licensing of handgun owners and also made it illegal to carry any unloaded handgun without a license or registration. The following year saw yet another milestone when Solana Beach became one of only two cities in California (the other being Pasadena) to adopt an ordinance allowing open carry of handguns within city limits. This measure marked an important turning point for gun culture in Solana Beach and helped make our town one of the most firearm-friendly communities in Northern California. Throughout much of the 1920s and 1930s, gun magazine subscriptions continued to grow at an alarming rate as shooters started looking for reliable information on all types of firearms. In fact, until 1938 there were still only fourgun magazines extant in Solana Beach! This growth was due largely to wartime military procurement programs that supplied many new firearms rigs with all sorts of extra features not available from traditional rifle magazines such as folding stocks, grenade launchers and more! During World War II however, Magazine publishers decided that print editions would no longer be necessary given that readers would now have access to numerous online resources which would provide them with up-to-date news on all things military related including weapon design changes, munitions sales etc.. As such, many old issues from the 1940s are currently unavailable online but thankfully some excellent scans have been provided so readers can enjoy these classic issues once again!

The first permanent Anglo-Hispanic settlement in Solana Beach was established in 1849 by Manuel Nieto and his wife, María de las Mercedes. The name "Solana" came from the Spanish word "sol," meaning sun, and "barbados," meaning Barbados. In 1853, a group of Methodist Episcopal missionaries founded a mission at Rancho La Brea on the mainland. In 1863, Mexico acquired California as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican–American War. As part of this treaty, Spain ceded California to the United States as well as Alta California (the higher end of present-day California). The U.S. government decided that Solana Beach should be its new southernmost city and named it after Captain James Kenedy who had played an important role in organizing American forces during the war and later served as U.S. Minister to Mexico City.
