The first real target gun was built in 1899 by Mr. & Mrs. John Hargrave, owners of a hardware store on Third Street northwest of town. It consisted of a wooden platform with four iron posts supporting it, about 20 feet long and 12 feet wide at its widest point, from which an individual could stand behind to fire a ball at a stationary target off camera railings 25 feet away

Thanks to advances in technology and weaponry, target shooting now enjoys a global audience thanks to online platforms like YouTube and Instagram.
