Simi Valley, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The population was 8,987 at the 2010 census and has grown to 12,872 since then. It is part of the Simi Hills ZIP code. The town was founded in 1887 by farmers from Northern California and their families who had been driven out of their homes by drought. The name comes from the Spanish word "simi" meaning "a little valley." The first post office in Simi Valley was established in 1888. In 1903, a railroad station was built and named after William Haggerty, an entrepreneur who had donated land for the tracks. The town became a general store and citrus orchards became popular among settlers because they could provide fruit for local markets without having to worry about getting it to market quickly or driving down costs with truckloads of produce. In 1919, construction began on what would become one of Simi Valley's most famous landmarks: Apple Jack's Grist Mill which continues to operate today as a tourist attraction. applejack's mill was designed by noted American architect Jesse Lasky and its two floors are home to an exhibit on apples and agriculture history as well as gift shops, restaurants, and publikations such as magazines that rotate through the mill every week during apple season. In 1972, Simi Valley annexed much of neighboring Brentwood into its boundaries making it one municipality totaling over 12 square miles (30 km²). At that time there were only 1,500 residents living within city limits while Brentwood had more than 10 times that number with over 60 businesses including banks., grocery stores,, service stations,, medical clinics,, schools etc.. After years of growth and progress made by Mayor Harry Schaefer his successor John Daly announced plans for another annexation which would bring even more people into town bringing its population up to 14K when finally approved in 2006 adding an additional 2K sq mi (5 km²) making it now over 16K sq mi (10 km²) with over 350 businesses inside city limits alone!

It contains numerous historical sites that offer insight into early American life and culture; such as Mission San Buenaventura ( founded by Franciscan friars), Palmdale Park (home of Hollywood Fame Productions), and Mount Wilson Observatory. Additionally, Simi Valley offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking and biking; wine tasting; fishing; golfing; tennis; and horseback riding – all of which are perfect for summer days or fall weekends!
The Simi Valley area was first inhabited by the Chumash people in the late 18th century. In 1836, the US government built a military post at Fort Yuma to protect against Mexican raids. The post became a ranching community and produced supplies for the US Army during the Mexican-American War. In 1916, when California became an independent state, Simi Valley was included in the new county of Ventura.
