Simi Valley is a small town in Ventura County, California. The population was 21,711 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Simi Hills section of Ventura County. The name comes from Spanish for "Valley of the Simis". The first settlers in Simi Valley were Mexicans and their families who moved to the area around 1848 when California became a state. In 1865, Hiram Bingham platted what is now Simi Valley on land that he had purchased from Juan Bautista de Anza. The town was named after Bingham's daughter, Sarah (sima) valley. At its peak during World War II,Simi Valley had a population of over 50,000 people; however, it has since declined generally due to various factors such as demographic changes and commuting to larger cities such as Ventura or Santa Paula. Today, much of downtown Simi Valley remains abandoned with few structures remaining above ground level other than some old warehouses and schools which have been converted into apartments orLive/Leasehold housing units. Only one street in downtown - Main Street - features any significant commercial activity with several small businesses located along it including an auto dealership and convenience store adjacent to each other on two levels., However,. there are also numerous restaurants and bars dotting most of Downtown SIMI VALLEY which continue to be a popular tourist destination for locals and visitors alike despite its difficult access by public transportation or driving anywhere near downtown areas like mainstreet

Simi Valley is located in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. The valley was first populated by the Mono people and was known as Simi for its abundance of acacia trees. In 1849, Mexican land grants were made to various ranchers and miners in the area including James Irvine, who named his ranch Simi Acres after his father's ranch in Sonoma County. The town of Simi Valley was founded on May 14, 1865 by merchants John W. Woolridge and George Hildebrandt with help from military veterans. By 1870, there were over 1,000 residents in the small town which had a post office and three churches. In 1875, woolen fabrics became a mainstay of the economy thanks to imports from England and China. The following year saw the opening of the first railroad in Northern California which linked Simi Valley with downtown Los Angeles via San Bernardino Pass. By 1910, it had become an center for agriculture with sheep, cattle and citrus production accounting for most of the local income. The region experienced significant demographic growth during World War II when many war-related industries such as munitions manufacturing moved to Simi Valley or nearby Kern County because of easy access to natural resources like water and fuel sources. However, following World War II there was a decrease in population due to economic reasons as well as migration from other parts of California into what is now Silicon Valley due to its vast amount of job opportunities. In recent years, regional efforts have been made to encourage tourism which has helped increase taxable income within the community while preserving important aspects such as historical significance
The Simi Valley area was first populated by the Chumash people in the 18th century. They were replaced by the Kamloops people in the 19th century. The name for the area may come from Spanish, meaning "valley of many salmon". The valley was named for Simi Lake, which is located in the center of the valley. In 1850, a post office was established at Rancho San Carlos de la Paloma, and in 1852, a school was built there. The first white person to live in the Simi Valley area was John Cranch in 1854. In 1865, George Hearn started a coal mine near Gabilan Peak and called hismining camp Sierra Negra. By 1870, most ofthe Gold Country had been mined and much of what is now the Simi Valley had been developed as part of ranching operations.
