Signal Hill is a small town in Northern California, located on the edge of Yosemite National Park. It was founded by John C. Fremont in 1849 and became a popular tourist destination for people from the eastern United States. Signal Hill had an arsenal and gun lock business until it was destroyed in an arson fire in 1903. The town's only remaining structure is the old post office which still stands today. Gun locks were first developed as protection against thiefs trying to steal firearms from military or law enforcement officers during the 1800s. Many famous people have been associated with Signal Hill, including Ulysses S Grant who lived there while he served as President of the United States (1865-1869), Jack London who wrote his novel "The Call of the Wild" here (1902), Hollywood star Jimmy Stewart (1907-1987) and author Ernest Hemingway (1922-1996).

Signal Hill is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 2,869 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Signal Hill was named for General George Washington's signal hill near Mount Vernon. In 1851, Sir Hugh Johnson founded the Johnson Rancho Signal Hill Mexican land grant which encompassed much of today's Signal Hill area including present-day Antelope Valley and portions of neighboring counties. The rancho included 640 acres (24 ha) of what is now Antelope Valley, including parts of today's Signal Hill area. By 1875, the rancho had been sold to Lorenzo Stevens who platted what is now Signal Hill on its current site. In 1892, Victor Serna opened the first post office in Antelope Valley with mail service from Los Angeles to nearby Big Bear Lake. At that time, only two other towns in San Bernardino County had postal services; Big Bear Lake and Winchester were founded later that year. The original millinery shop building still stands in Antelope Valley and has been used as a schoolhouse since 1925; it currently functions as a museum! The old water tower still stands tall on High Street - it served as both a telegraph transmitter (1904-1966) and an early warning system during World War II (1942-1945). A new water tower was built north of town in 2006 and became operational in 2009. Signal Hill is a small community located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles, California. It was founded in 1887 by farmers who built a post office and school at the hill. The population of Signal Hill was 1,200 people in 1900, but it grew to over 5,000 by 1930. The first radio station in Signal Hill was KHJK-AM, which began transmissions on December 2, 1923. In 1950, KHJK switched from shortwave to FM and became KQED-FM. In 1978, KLIF-FM (now KYLA) moved from Signal Hill to nearby Monterrey and changed its call letters to KFMB-FM. In 1984, KHJK changed its call sign to KPCC and became an all-news station; it ceased operations on November 15 of that year. In 1990, KFBZchanged its call sign to KNXV after moving from Monterey and becoming an adult contemporary station; it ceased operations on October 16 of that year. In 1999, KRON transferred its affiliation with Fox News Channel from UPN to ABC; as a result, KPCC became the only major local television station in Los Angeles without affiliation with any other network. On May 12th of that year KDKA sold their affiliation with CBS Radio Network (which included KRON) for $25 million to Entercom Communications Corporation; as a result KNXV adopted the new KDKA callsign effective May 14th of that year becoming an automated repeater for KTLA (the former NBC affiliate). The last major change took place when MyNetworkTV affiliations were announced for both LA Times Television Company's CW affiliate KCAL/FOX 31 & CW 43 - both stations will move their main studios within city limits from Century City into what will become known as the "CW Zone" near Westchester Avenue & Santa Monica Boulevard - this will make way for KTLA's new home onishop Ave., effectively ending KRON's assignment at Valley Center since they share facilities with now sister stations WBND/LOLA & KSFO/KCJO
