Signal Hill is a small town located in the San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Signal Hill is known for its binoculars history and depot. The first binocular factory in Signal Hill was founded in 1865 by Hiram Maxim and his brother George. In 1876, John James Audubon used the plant to make binoculars for observation of birds on Long Island. In 1925, the company moved to its present location on State Street in Signal Hill. The current building began construction in 1969 and opened to the public in 1970. The name "Signal Hill" comes from two separate places: one is about three miles east of here along US Route 66 (which forms a divide between downtown Signal Hill and rural areas to the north), while another is about five miles due south of here on Big Bear Road which runs parallel to Interstate 10 (the old route now called I-10 East). Both places had been named for signals that could be seen from various points around town - signal hill being an allusion to a large boulder visible from most parts of town; and big bear being derived from an early settler's nickname for this area - "Bear Valley". Binoculars are believed to have first been developed as sighting tools by Native Americans some 4,000 years ago! They were later adopted by European explorers who found them very useful for surveying new land during their searches for longitude and latitude coordinates. Signal Hill is located on the west side of San Bernardino Valley and overlooks Interstate 10. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first white person to live in Signal Hill was George Wills in 1853. A post office called Signal Hill was established in 1855, and the name changed to Santa Anita in 1859. In 1886, the tracks leading out of Pasadena were built through Signal Hill, opening up new opportunities for businesses and residents. The First Baptist Church constructed a church building on Main Street in 1896. In 1915, an oil well was drilled near Signal Hill; when it came online production began and raised prices for gasoline by 50%. The townspeople had trouble getting enough people to come out to watch because there were no schools or shops nearby that could provide goods and services until 1933 when a school building was built on Main Street which became known as "The School". In 1951 local resident Tommy Thompson developed what would become known as Thompson's Playland which included a pub (the Tommy Thompson Tavern), air conditioned theater (theThompson Playhouse), basketball court (the Thompson Arena), swings (the Park Place House), picnic areas (the Barker Park Pavilion and John F Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum) as well as his own home-made amusement park complete with water slides, go-karts, bumper cars etc., making it one of Southern California's most popular tourist destinations during this time period! In 1984 Measure O added thirteen parcels of land adjacent to Thompsons Playland totaling . When voters approved Measure M which doubled development rights for the annexed properties at $5 million dollars developers started coming including Disneyland who bought much of what remained from Thompson's Playland before finally demolishing it all due to budget overruns... making signal hill once again its own little community!

It is located on the east side of San Bernardino Mountains and was founded in 1892 by missionaries of the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church. The town was named for Mount Signal, which is located nearby. As of the 2010 census, the population of Signal Hill was 3,994. The ZIP code for Signal Hill is 92234. In 1892, missionaries from the Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church were sent to California to preach Christianity to Native Americans. One such missionary was Rev. Peder Olsen (1851-1924). When he arrived in 1892, he found that there were only a few people living in what is now Signal Hill. He started building some houses and erected a chapel in 1894; this chapel still stand today and can be seen from most parts of town. Signal Hill quickly became known as an agricultural center due to its location close to several water supplies and its easy access to railroads statewide. In 1916, railroad tracks were built through Signal Hill making it possible for businesses to grow tomatoes and other vegetables while still being able to ship goods interstate or out of state. By 1925, however, automobiles had replaced locomotives as the main means of transportation within town so many businesses closed their doors and many residents left for greener pastures elsewhere in San Bernardino County or outside California altogether . However, despite these challenges over time, Signalfield has managed to maintain a sense of community despite changes happening around it like annexation by neighboring towns or development along Route 66 which cut off much if not all access into Signalfield . Today'sSignalHill reflects both its pioneer days as well as current day technological advancements with plenty of businesses online/offline that provide services such as home repairs/maintenance/electronicsrepair etc.,all without having any physical presence within town limits!
On Signal Hill there are several notable historical events that took place. The first was the Battle of San Jacinto which took place on June 6, 1836. The battle was fought between Mexican forces and American forces and resulted in a victory for the Americans. The second event happened on November 11, 1850 when California became a state. This event was important because it signified the end of the Mexican-American War and it also helped to create U.S.-Mexico relations.
