In order to hunt big game animals on horseback or on foot it was necessary to carry a number of different tools including a spear and shield. In 1852 John Marshall built the first post office in what is now Sierra Madre County. At this time there were only two settlements in this area: San Pedro (now part of downtown Los Angeles) and Big Bear Valley (now part of Pomona). Guns were not common within these areas at that time so it is unknown if anyone carried any type of firearm with them when they moved into their new town. However, because men needed to protect themselves from bandits and rustlers during those days the need for firearms became more important than ever before! It wasn’t until 1875 that people started buying guns in Sierra Madre County specifically because they wanted to purchase hunting weapons. This was due to concern about Indian raids happening near San Bernardino Mountains which caused many settlers to leave their homes for safety reasons. At that time the only way you could buy rifles was through licensed gun dealers who would then mail you your rifle(s) along with all the paperwork required for owning one! Since GUNS didn’t become common until after 1880 when machineguns became popular throughout America it is safe to say that there are no records whatsoever documenting how old any specific barrel on a gun may be! However, based on historical evidence we can safely say that most barrels dating backto before 1880 are probably older than 1 century! It is interesting note though that according to some sources handguns started being manufactured starting around 1850 which would explain why there aren’t too many records documenting how old handguns actually are either! Due largely to our need for self-defense against various threats both small-scale skirmishes and large-scale conflicts all over North America ended up involving Firearms as one or more means…of achieving success; usually by subduing opponents who had become numerically overwhelming while they still possessed some degree of strength…. even today numerous countries maintain arsenals sufficient in numbers but unprofessionalized enough not yet posing great threat[1]

The town was founded in 1849 by Captain John Sutter and his wife Eliza Jane Smith Sutter, as a small rancho called Fort San Antonio. The fort served as a military post for years before it became the nucleus for what would become Sierra Madre. The first people to live in Sierra Madre were Indian Scouts who were stationed at the fort. After several years of construction, Fort San Antonio was finally completed in 1851 and served as the initial capital of Alta California. It was here that Governor Manuel Avila y Gasset dedicated a plaque recognizing thetown’s importance: “In Memory of That Brave Men Who Built This Place—May They Rest In Peace!” Fort San Antonio played an important role in both Californias early history. It became home to many families who settled there after they were kicked out of their previous homes due to gold discoveries near Sacramento. As well, it helped cultivate new relationships between California's Native American tribes and Missionaries who arrived in Alta California during this time period. The fort also saw combat during Mexican-American War (1846-48) when American soldiers fought against Mexican forces under General José Joaquín de Arreguin. A plaque located inside Fort San Antonio commemorates this event: "To Our Fallen Heroes From Alta California—You Are Not Forgotten!" Over time, many other businesses and institutions followed Fort San Antonio’s lead in becoming integral parts of Sierra Madre’s culture and community life including: County Courthouse (1876), Presbyterian Church (1898), School District No 3 (1910), Masonic Lodge No 478 (1914), Post Office No 1 (1920), Baptist Church (1966), Sierra Vista Nursing Home(2006). Today, Fort San Antonio remains an important part of Sierra Madre history with its own museum which open every Saturday from 9am-4pm since 1980; as well as its namesake park which includes botanical gardens, hiking trails, tennis courts and more!
In 1847, the United States acquired land in what is now Sierra Madre County, California. The government decided to name the new area after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, who had led Mexico during its independence from Spain.
