A year later, news arrived of gold being found at Sutter’s Mill outside of Sacramento so more people started moving into this new area which would eventually become Sierra Madre County. The main industry during these early days was farming but soon enough other businesses sprang up such as wagon manufacturing, lumbering, mining and ranching including many large cattle ranches that still exist today. With all these activities going on, it is no wonder that Sierra Madre came to be known for its amazing vistas overlooking all these activityial areas as well as its delicious wines made from grapes grown hereabouts!
