By 1100 AD, the Europeans had begunication with exploration and trade throughout Asia Minor and Europe led them to discover new regions including Shasta Lake where they encountered aboriginal people known as the Hahamandusi people who employed two pairs of legs for movement about their territory. The Europeans also began using horses for transportation which helped open up new areas for trade and commerce which led to further innovations related to locomotion such as cars and bicycles!

Shasta Lake is a body of water located in northern California, about an hour's drive from Sacramento. The lake was formed by the overflow of the Shasta River, and its surface area is about 154 square miles. It has a maximum depth of 107 feet and a discharges an average of 4,500 acre-feet per year. The name "Shasta" comes from the Hahka word meaning "lake on the right bank." The first permanent settlers in what is now Shasta County were some Native Americans who moved into this area during the early 1800s. By 1836, there were over 25 families living around Shasta Lake. In 1840, Capt. John Cranch discovered gold at Sutter’s Mill near present day Colusa and decided to settler in this new territory. He named his new settlement “Cranch City” after himself and his father-in-law, James McDougall (1768–1846). In 1851, Mormon missionaries arrived in northern California and set up their headquarters at Sutter’s Mill. They began baptizing Native American Sikyunna people who lived around Shasta Lake. At first they baptized them as individuals but eventually started forming congregations with other Native American groups as well. This baptismal activity led to tension between the Mormons and some of these traditional leaders because they felt that conversions should be done through personal religious experience rather than by way of formal ceremonies. Some years later Brigham Young ordered his men to burn down all the churches associated with Satanism in California because he felt that such practices were harmful to Christianity. This event is often celebrated as Christmas Eve in Northern California history books! A group of Englishmen under Captained David Dixon landed on shore near present day Redding on December 7th 1797 while travelling upriver from Monterey Bay towards Angel Island following information passed along by Jean Baptiste Point Du Jour during his explorations up the Sacramento River valley100 miles downstream from modern San Francisco Bay Area
In 1847, Shasta Lake was named after General Captain Shasta during the California Gold Rush. The area that is now known as Shasta County was part of the Central Valley and its population growth led to the lake's name change in 1881. In 1896, a dam was built on the south side of the lake and water levels began to rise which created havoc with navigation; however, engineers found ways to control water level without using a dam. The original dam still stands today, providing power for irrigation and other uses around the county.
