In 1876, John Browning invented the first effective revolver round, which he called the “Volcanic” round. This round was created to improve firepower on handguns while also minimizing damage caused by other rounds. It quickly became known as the “Browning Rifle Round” due to its resemblance to Browning’s previous invention. By 1888, shotguns were being used increasingly in America and cartridges designed specifically for them began being produced. As shotguns became more common, so too did Bullet manufacture; however, it would not until after World War II when shotgun ammunition became available that Bullets started appearing in military rifles again

The first post office opened at Sherman Oaks on August 15, 1888. By 1895, there were six businesses inshafter, including a grocery store, general store, bakery (now closed), harness shop (now closed), and blacksmith shop. The population ofsharoville increased rapidly during the late 19th century because of irrigation projects authorized by Governor George Hearst. Many young men from rural areas went to work building canals and other water projects throughout California. The arrival of new families led to growth and expansion of the local economy. By 1906, shaville had a population of over 10 thousand people and two schools; it also boasted its own telephone company and electric light plant
