Recently, however, several novel approaches to using tasers – including training officers how to use them safely while subduing suspects – seem to be making headway in order to make these encounters less likely while still providing the option for lethal force if necessary."

It also served as a center for black Americans working in various industries throughout the war years. After the war ended, many residents moved out of Selma and into new suburbs outside of town due to economic decline and changes in government policy towards African Americans. However, some continue to live within the boundaries of Selma today including its downtown district which contains many historical buildings dating back to before its incorporation into Montgomery
