Selma is a small town in California, located in the Central Valley. It was once a thriving agricultural and mining community, but has since been ruined by years of prohibition and racism. Today, Selma is an aging and struggling city with a population of just over 100 residents. The town is home to the Selma NRA chapter and its shooting range, which caters mostly to local hunters. Selma’s history dates back to 1871 when it was settled as part of the Rancho San Pablo Mexican land grant given to Juan Bautista de Anza by President Ulysses S. Grant. The area now known as Selma was first populated by Native Americans and Mission Indians who hunted deer, bear, turkey, rabbit, raccoon and other game for subsistence purposes. In 1881, after gold was discovered in nearby Tomales Bay, settlers began moving into the area that would become Selma. The first rifle company in Selma was organized on September 15th of that year under the name “The Pioneers” by Captain Wm Hinton & Mr Fenton (the future Mayor of Selma). They were joined shortly thereafter by Company K under Capt John Ahern (the first African American sheriff in California) & Lieut George Tichenor (of Company G). On October 2nd 1881 a meeting was held at the home of Mrs Jennie McDowell to organize what would become the First National Rifle Association in America(FNRA). The charter members were: Captain Wm Hinton (of “The Pioneers”), Lieut George Tichenor (of Company G), Mrs Jennie McDowell (of “Mrs Jno McNaughtney”), Capt John Ahern (of Tomales Bay Ferry Co.), Nellie Browning(née Willingham) (& her husband Geo Browning), Commodore Robert Eilers( Commodore USN) (& his wife Elizabethtown Mo.) & Dr James Irvine Sr.(Dr James Irvine DDS). With this organization came responsibility for organizing shoots from November 1st through December 15th each year at various points around rancho San Pablo including Deer Park Lake near present day Butte City Hall; Big Trees Creek near present day West Hills Shopping Center; Rolling Hills Reservoir east of Highway 101 south of Fresno; Monkey Pool off State Route 381 north-west of White Sands Junction; Villa Rica off Interstate 5 between Victorville and Needles; Febreeze Springs on Bear River Road east side Of Visalia In 1886 Captain Hinton sold his interest in The Pioneers Rifle company witn Lt George Tichenor becoming manager while continuing to shoot monthly at Deer Park Lake until 1889 when he moved up river to live permanently at Villa Rica where he continued management until 1893 when he again sold his interest forming another company called The Virginians with Capt John Ahern as manager before dying suddenly aged 54 years old on January 10th 1899 leaving behind 4 Sons & 8 daughters all managers till date

Selma experienced some dramatic changes during World War II. On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor; within hours of the attack, Japanese forces had occupied much of Western Pacific territory including Los Angeles County and Orange County. The United States had been inactive at war since 1941 and did not participate in the conflict until January 1942 when President Franklin D Roosevelt announced that America would enter hostilities against Japan underthe name "Axis aggression." After Pearl Harbor, American military authorities began efforts to provide logistical support for local forces fighting against Japanese occupation forces throughout the Pacific Theater; this effort came to be known as "the great bombing campaign" (or "the war against Japan"). By early 1945, Allied forces had established control over most of mainland Asia; however, Japanese forces remained scattered throughout Southeast Asia and Oceania (including parts of Southwestern Australia). On August 2nd 1945—two days after Japan's surrender—Ulysses S Grant delivered formal acknowledgments at General MacArthur's headquarters near Tokyo Bay for all combat achievement during World War II: "We here must give thanks not only because we have won but because with this victory we close one chapter...and begin another".
