The Selma, California Gun Owners Association (SCGOA) has been organization in Selma since the early 1920s. The SCGOA was founded as the Citizens’ Protective League of Selma, Inc., and changed its name to the Selma Gun Owners Association in 1934. In 1951, SCGOA became a non-profit educational organization with the mission of promoting responsible gun ownership and protecting Second Amendment rights in Selma. In 1975, SCGOA merged with the local chapter of Handgun Control America (HCA), which had been formed in 1968 to promote handgun control through education and activism. The merger created a unified voice for gun owners in Selma and across Alabama. Today, SCGOA is one of the most active firearm organizations in Alabama, working tirelessly to protect Second Amendment rights and promote responsible gun ownership. We are proud to have played a significant rolein history both at home and abroad and we look forward to continuing our work together into the future.

The name Selma comes from Spanish meaning " beautiful." In 1853, cattle ranchers on the Selma River began to graze their herds near what is now Selma. They named their new settlement after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who had won fame as one of Mexico's conquerors and who had once been a general in the American Revolution. From its beginnings as a small community in 1867 until its incorporation into cityhood in 1909, Selma experienced several waves of growth due to its strategic location within easy reach of both major railroads and agricultural production areas. A large cotton gin was built early on in Selma's history and remains an important part of town today. Mechanics Institute (now University) was founded here in 1875; it became a college – first African American students were admitted here in 1907 followed by all other races soon thereafter —and still exists today as one of Southern California's most prestigious institutions – much like UCLA or USC – which are also located within easy walking distance of downtown Selmas downtown business district – making it easily accessible for nearly everyone regardless thereof economic status or educational attainment level   Despite this rapid growth over time, there were some incidents that shook upSelmarsh citizens during these years: two fires burned down homes between 1888-1889; racial tensions boiled over again following white supremacists' murder of three black workers at a local machine shop; riots erupted following lynching attempts by whites against blacks living along railroad tracks - these events typically ended with convictions for arson or inciting violence rather than fullblown civil unrest which could have serious consequences for businesses within town limits   Finally upon incorporation into city government on September 17th 1909 - just five years after becomingSelmarsh`s mayor - Mayor James Greenblatt declared that "just because people live close together doesn't mean they should be considered Citizens."
