This gave Governor Schwarzenegger an opening to enter the race and Schwarzenegger easily won on election night without having actually campaigned in Selma or Los Angeles County as much as Davis had planned (the general election being November 6). As governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has said many times since becoming president: "If I had spent more time campaigning in Selmas [city] - especially given my heavy reliance on mailers out there - I would have won."

In 1916 Clyde Tombaugh discovered oil near Kernville and developed what would become one of the most important oilfields in America. However, due to its proximity to populated areas including Pasadena and Industry, small towns began to form aroundoil fields with businesses catering to them instead of just those supplying an area specifically rich in oil resources like Kernville had been back when Garrison started his store
