The Selma Airgun Club was founded in 1951 by a group of enthusiasts who were interested in airguns. The club meetings and shoots took place at the old Selma High School, and later at the nearbySelma Gunsmith Shop. It was during this time that airguns began to gain popularity as an outdoor sport in Selma. In 1957, the club constructed its first shooting range, which became one of the most popular in California. In 1969, Selma's then-mayor, Vernon Jordan, donated funds for the construction of a new Air Force Base on what is now West End Drive. This gave the city new access to military-owned property which had been used for target practice by local citizens since World War II. As a result of this donation,Selma Airgun Club members were able to build additional ranges on private land across from the base. In 2003, Selma Airgun Club celebrated its centenary with a series of events including an open house, golf tournament/fairs/ Consumer show and fireworks display over night at City Park..

The Selma-Aldridge Electric Company was founded in 1922 by two businessmen from Chicago, Illinois: Harry Fenton Aldridge and Lewis Mumford Aldridge. In 1929—the same year that Selma was incorporated as a city—it became part of Montgomery County, California. Selma's first black mayor was James Evers; he resigned after only three months on office due to strong opposition from white residents. In 1965, when African Americans won racial voting rights through passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Selma became one of several American cities which had been targeted for Jim Crow policies because their black populations were disproportionately high relative to theirwhite populations. With increased federal enforcement efforts against discrimination throughout America during this time period, Selmas inner-city neighborhoods began posturing against government interventionism with such initiatives as "Black Eagle" patrols in which police officers would monitor these areas for武装 activity or other acts indicative of subversive activity by African Americans seeking desperately to assert themselves within white society outside its traditional power structure. In 1969–1970 an event known as "Bloody Sunday" occurred when Republican National Committee staffer Jesse Helms organized a peaceful march from Selma's Edmund Pettus Bridge over into Montgomery County for what he hoped would be symbolic combat against integrated schools there. However, violence erupted between counterdemonstrators and local police forces upon arrival at Pettus Bridge; twenty-one people were killed and hundreds more injured before Helms ordered his forces back onto Highway 90 (now Interstate 5) and moved on towards Birmingham suburb of Tuscaloosa where civil unrest continued until 1973 without any significant resolution or change being effected in Montgomery County despite demands from both Blacks & whites alike for action outside City Limits!
