In 1949*, after years of lobbying by both groups*, tasers finally became regulated under The National Firearms Act (NFA). This act gave individuals with Class III firearms (such as handguns)the right to own up to four devices that can fire darts or probes with an energy output exceeding 25 joules* *. At this point however, there still remained significant opposition from gun manufacturers who saw them as infringing upon their business * *. In order to overcome these obstacles*, Taser International Inc., a subsidiary of Raytheon Company began developing new models specific towards law enforcement purposes* *. These new models featured increased power (upTo 50 Joules) and could shoot darts or probes with an energy output greater than 100 Joules*. As these models progressed into production(*), it became clear that they would play an increasingly important role in policing * *. Today, nearly seventy years later*, tasers continue playing an important role both inside and outsideof Law Enforcement.*

The first European to set foot on what is now Seaside was the Portuguese sailor João Inácio de Sousa in 1542. The Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro had also discovered California in 1542, but never claimed it for Spain. As a result, there were no permanent settlements of Europeans on the coast until 1769 when Capt. John Barron sailed into San Diego bay and named it after his patron saint, St. Christopher.
