Sandsburg Rifle and Pistol Armory was established in Seaside, California in 1907. It was the first gunsmith shop in town. The rifle and pistol stocks were built by George Sandsburg and his sons, Harry, Frank, and John Sandsburg. In 1933, the store moved to its present location on Sunrise Boulevard. The Sandsburg Rifle and Pistol Armory has been a family-owned business since 1907. It is one of only a few businesses remaining in Seaside that still stock rifles and pistols from the early 1800s. The Sons of George Sandsburg continue to operate the business as a shooting gallery with daily rentals for meetings, weddings, or other events.

On May 25, 1892, the first rifle stock company was organized in Seaside by W. H. Hecht and P. G. Moseley. The company had two rifles and was known as the "Hecht Rifle Company." The Hecht Rifle Company became a part of the First National Rifle Association on October 15, 1892. On November 6, 1893, the Hecht Rifle Company changed its name to the "Seaside Rifle Club." In 1896, after being organized for 2 years it became an incorporated society with 10 members under the name of "The Seaside Rifle Club." On December 4th of that year they met at their new location to adopt a constitution and bylaws. They were again renamed on January 1st 1897 as "The Seaside Pistol and Rifles Club". This organization lasted until 1902 when it merged into another organization which is still active today - The California Pistol Preservation Society
Seaside is a small town in Marin County, California. It is located on the Pacific Coast and bordered by Golden Gate Strait to the south, Sausalito to the east, and Carlsbad Caverns to the north. The name comes from Spanish meaning "Island of Happy Days." Seaside was founded in 1876 as a result of an agreement between United States President Ulysses S. Grant and Mexican president Benito Juárez. The community grew rapidly during World War II when thousands of sailors from America's Pacific Fleet landed in nearby Menlo Park to expand production at San Francisco-based Douglas Aircraft Corporation. Today, Seaside remains one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Peninsula because of its easy access to beaches, miles of sandy shoreline, fresh waterfalls and cultural attractions such as art galleries and theaters. One local tradition is caroling each night around dinnertime. Local businesses offer caroling services for a fee or charge customers to listen to their favorite singers while they eat their meal.

The towns namesake comes from nearby San Pedro County where the water risers at Seaweed Head prevent waves from crashing onto shoreline communities such as Newport Beach or Morro Bay permanently exposing soft white sand to view from above (the current name). Thus “Sea-Side” evolved as an appellation for areas that lay within reach of both windsurfing and sailing access at high tide—an ideal location for coastal living before development erased much of this natural habitats ashore during post-World War II growth spurt.
