In 1928, a company called The Optical Company was founded by three men- George Eastman, Waldo E. Martin and Lewis Hill- to sell eyeglasses and sunglasses. By 1930, The Optical Company had become one of the leading companies in this industry. In 1936, Dr. Edward Condon founded The Electrical Equipment Corporation (TEEC) in Seaside to sell electrical equipment such as televisions and radios.TEEC soon became one of the largest suppliers of electronic equipment in California because it offered a wide range of products that met the needs of different businesses and consumers. During World War II, many businesses closed their doors due to wartime restrictions on materials and labor availability. However, TEEC continued business operations during wartime with help from its employees who supplied their own needed supplies for production purposes. TEEC also supported military efforts through donations of equipment and materials to various organizations including hospitals, armories and other war-time sites across Southern California. Eventually, TEEC grew too large for its original location on Harbor Boulevard in Seaside Heights and moved into new facilities on First Street in 1961. During this time, TEEC began manufacturing optics products such as telescopes, binoculars and microscopes under the guise of “Optic Sales” which helped promote optical products throughout California beyond just Seaside Heights until it eventually folded within two years after becoming too successful at what it did? It is safe to say that withoutTEEC there would be no modern day consumer electronics market today!

By 1907, Seaside had become an agricultural town with a population of around 5,000. In 1916, however, the US entered World War I and its effects were felt throughout California. The war caused economic decline for Seaside as production at nearby agriculture companies went up while prices for goods exported to Europe increased. With no money coming in to help support the town, residents voted to close down in 1922. In 1923, however, local businessman Harry Hennessey bought the town and reopened it as a retirement community with multiple wards that offered different services such as health care, education, and shopping. Over time Seaside has seen growth in both its population and economy but has also been hit by natural disasters such as earthquakes which have destroyed infrastructure and forced people out of their homes. Today Seaside is one of America's most popular retirement communities with over 1 million residents living there alone or joined by family members who share common interests including fishing, boating, golfing, swimming & skiing etc.
The first Europeans to set foot on the now internationally famous shoreline of Seaside, California were Spanish conquistadors in 1769. A mission was established at what is now Seaside in 1821 and a series of small towns grew up around it. In 1926, the state of California purchased the property from the previous owner for $2 million. The new state government began developing Seaside as a resort town and developed it further into an important tourist destination.
