Construction started in 1849 and finished two years later; Astor enjoyed considerable success from this venture which helped make him one of the wealthiest men in America. Throughout its early years, Seaside experienced significant economic volatility thanks to its location on the open sea - crowds often spilled into the town during summer months for entertainment such as concerts and balls at local inns. This posed challenges for both local officials and developers who were frequently forced to adjust their plans based on changes in tide levels or weather patterns. By 1860, however, Astor had relocated his business to a new waterfront building that served as his personal residence until his death in 1861 aged 64 years old. His widow continued to run her trading post until it closed down around 1870 due to competition from more modern hotels near Mission Bay.. In 1895, Santa Cruz County was created adjacent to San Francisco creating opportunities for growth along the coastlines of both cities; Seaside saw rapid annexation throughout much of 1896 with businesses thriving include wharf workers(*), prostitutes (*), laborers (*), farmers (*), streetcar drivers (*), manufacturing companies(*), architects* (eBay * glassware company * dune stabilization company *) - all eager for access to scenic ocean views while avoiding urban congestion*. The following year saw another boom with Congress enacting legislation authorizing US Grant Land Sales†††† which led directlyto many coastal towns becoming incorporated along with their own governments – including those located at Seal Beach (1902)*; Happy Valley (1906)*; Point Reyes Station (1910)*; Monterey (1920)* – making Seaside one of Californias earliest municipal jurisdictions *. In 1925(*!), Mayor Dyer ordered dredging operations starting from Carquinez Straits leading upriver towards Point Reyes Station.* subsequently widening and deepening Callithea Channel*, opening new harbors at Monterey Haven* (*) – increasing accessibility & commerce along California’s highly strategic coastline*. port facilities [*] gradually replaced wharves ashore over time *. At first glance*, these developments may have seemed insignificant compared with today’s top tourist destinations such as Malibu *(*) but they were central TO MODERN SEASIDE’S FORMATION AND STRUCTURE*. In fact*, many key elements that now define current-day seaside culture were developed during this period: surfing beaches became popularized circa 1949 (#6 surfer spot list) thanks largely to US Grant Land Sales orders issued through Mayor Dyer*(); North Beach restaurants (& bars*) opened shortly thereafter (#1 coastal restaurant listings); boardwalk development nearby rapidly expanded*:(*). Downtown areas like Main Street underwent extensive renovation beginning circa 1957/58 culminating in 1978(*); subsequent gentrification resulting in increased tourism (+/-$50M annually)[].
