In 1821, merchant Commodore John Denton founded what would become known as Denton's Landing which served as a port for goods brought up by ships going into and out of San Diego Bay. When San Francisco became a city in 1851, it needed another port so it built one at Point Loma on top of Mount Diablo which became known as "The Top." In 1857, Captain John Prentice founded Prentice's Marina where he stored his vessels for transport inland during winter months when water levels were low near Mission bay. The town grew rapidly around this point with businesses such as warehouses, stores, restaurants and hotels opening up along Wharf Street. By 1870, Seaside had a population of 2300 people and was described as "a small but thriving community situated on the wharf fronting upon Congress Street". During World War II Seaside developed into one of America's largest naval shipyards with over 100 warships being produced there including USS Constitution (the first U.S warship ever built), USS Enterprise (CV-6), USS Yorktown (CV-13) and USS Forrestal (CV-38). After Pearl Harbor Hawai'i was annexed into America becoming an American state and then Japan bombed Pearl Harbor killing thousands more civilians including many Americans living there making Seaside all too familiar with airstrikes during WWII Japanese aggression against America . After WWII ended however seaside reverted back to its prewar status as a vibrant town sharing many similarities with before but also experiencing some unique aspects unique to that time period like postcard companies selling postcards depicting life inside military bases just outside town limits

The town of Seaside, California was founded in 1887 by John A. Macdonald and his wife, Mary Jane. The first post office in Seaside was established in 1888 and the name of the town was changed to Seaside in 1889. The first school in Seaside was built in 1886 and the name of the school was changed to Seaside High School in 1896. In 1933, the towns charter was amended to allow for the establishment of a public library which opened its doors on December 15, 1933. In 1945, troops were stationed at Fort Bragg during World War II and during that time, Seaside established itself as a center for military activity with an armory and various stores located within walking distance of fort. In 1948, a new high school building was constructed which replaced the old gymnasium building which had been damaged by fire. In 1959, it became apparent that Fort Bragg would be closing down at some point and so plans were made to demolish the old buildings and replace them with new structures which would give seaside more permanence within its community. The current municipal government adopted this plan and since then, all new structures have been built within sight of each other inside or adjacent to their predecessor Buildings without having to go through demolition/removal process.

By 1881, Seaside had a population of 1,500 and was described as a "prominently commercial" town with a busy harbor and several businesses.
