The first law enforcement officers in Seaside were select-fire riflemen from the California National Guard who served during the Mexican-American War. It wasn’t until 1978 that a new arms dealer by the name of Joe Brown opened up shop on Main Street in Seaside known as Brown Arsenal Arms Incorporated (BAI). After several failed attempts at finding a solution, he finally hired engineer George Haggerty Jr., who developed what would become the first successful ocean-going steamboat engine ashore - powering his own wharf built at Point Loma before sailing down San Pedro Bay for salt production purposes! In 1906, seasIDE became an incorporated community when it was annexed by Redondo Beach! This growth led to many new businesses opening up such as bakeries, movie theaters and grocery stores among others which continue today as part of the thriving community atmosphere found throughout Seaside! One significant event that took place during this time was when waves began crashing onto shoreline causing extensive damage which later led to the establishment of Seaweed Development Corporation which has since been responsible for much preserving our beautiful coastline! Bicycling has long been an important part of life here in Seaside; dating back over 40 years ago when bicycles were donated by Mrs. Harry Fenton from Redondo Beach specifically for use on San Pedro Bay beach!.
