Seal Beach is a town located on the Pacific Ocean in Orange County, California. The population was 382 at the 2010 census, down from 498 at the 2000 census. Seal Beach is one of two towns in Orange County and its sister city, Newport Beach, California which were merged into one municipality in 2009. Seal Beach's ZIP code 92660 is within the city limits of Newport Beach. The first Europeans to visit Seal Beach were Spanish sailors who landed there in 1795 on their way back from exploring North America. They named it La Isla de la Paloma because they saw a seal off shore and thought it looked like a baby seal. A whaling station was built here in 1878 by J P Morgan and his partners. The town began to grow rapidly after World War II when thousands of soldiers returning from service brought new families to Seal Beach. The post office was established at Seal beach on April 20th 1870 by Wm Hulse with general delivery only for 30 days because he could not find a place to put his store ashore. It continued as part of the Santa Ana River Colony until it became an independent town on October 15th 1872 under the name Santa Ana Wharf (later Seal beach). On November 1st 1886, both towns petitioned for incorporation as City of Newport Beach but got no response so they submitted their petitions again on December 1st 1906 which were accepted without objection by both councils. The first mayor was John Smedley who served until 1912 when he moved up to become mayor of Anaheim and held that position until 1951 when Harry Hayward took over as Mayor which lasted until 1973 when city services were transferred to Newport Beach through annexation On July 14th 1956, Gov Jerry Brown issued Executive Order 9358 making Seal Beach an open-air public forum for all types of business transactions subject to prior review by City Council including but not limited to real estate transactions In 1978 Mayor Harry Hayward created Harbor Master Plan Division which conducted studies for harbor expansion plans and improvements along with developing Coast Guard facilities adjacent thereto further involving dredging and berth construction Developing Naval Air Station Long Island Sound near Avalon Bay became reality during early 1980’s followed thereafter with establishment of Harbormaster Plan Division whose mandate would bethe establish harbor master plandivision regulations consistent wit national standards governing harbor development adopted thereby . Programs include survey/estimate/planning/property acquisition/maintenance etc.,etc.; operations are managed through HarborMaster Plan Division with assistance from various other agencies

Seal Beach is a town in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 14,472 at the 2010 census. Seal Beach was founded on May 30, 1875 by Captain John Dominguez and his wife Maria Palomo. It became an incorporated city on November 3, 1906. The name "Seal Beach" comes from the Spanish word "seale" meaning white sand beach and "beach" meaning place of refuge or landing for travelers. The first post office in Seal Beach opened on December 5, 1878. On October 15, 1886, the first train to run through Seal Beach arrived from Los Angeles with passengers and mail. In 1912, the first water pipeline to serve Seal Beach was built. The original seal beach business district included stores such as Sears & Roebuck and Jardine's Hardware; however this area has been gradually replaced by newer development since then. On May 30th 1875 Captain John Dominguez sailed into what is now called Harbor City with his family after arriving terra incognita in search of goldfields in Central America during the California Gold Rush days before San Francisco had even been founded! He named his new settlement after himself - Seal Beach - because of the white sand beaches he found there! After years of exploration they located several rich veins of gold that led to their initial riches but unfortunately these mines proved barren so instead they quickly abandoned their efforts and returned home without further ado! However their story lives on today thanks to history being written about them every day by those who visit our beautiful city! Ichiban Maru (the Japanese immigrant ship) which had come down via Panama waters bearing 137 crates of supplies including food for American soldiers fighting against Japan during World War II finally reached land near Catalina Island off Southern California's coast on September 2nd 1945 when it stranded 11 miles off shore due to bad weather conditions caused by Typhoon Bataan-Laguna (1944). Upon disembarking most of the passengers were immediately taken into custody by U.S Naval forces under Rear Admiral David Yeager who ordered all personnel onto board Ichiban Maru before allowing any women or children ashore! Although only three sailors survived the typhoon she served as a training vessel for future typhoon relief operations during WWII helping maintain law and order along Leyte Gulf coastline Commander Yeager is today honored with a plaque at marinas in Laguna Niguel and Isla Santa Margarita also features an exhibit commemorating her service . She remains one of Northern California’s great maritime stories
