Seal Beach is a city located on the southern coast of California. It is bordered by Malibu to the north, Santa Monica to the east, and Venice to the south. The city was founded in 1894 by citizens of Los Angeles who were looking for a secluded beach town. The name Seal Beach comes from nearby Laguna Seca, which was then known as "The Beach at Seal Point." The first houses in Seal Beach were built on the former Naval Air Station (NAS) Loma Linda. In 1919, NAS Loma Linda was closed and its land sold to the City of Seal Beach for development into an open-air mall called "Sea Cliff". In 1938, NAS Loma Linda reopened as Harbor Lights Navy Base and it continued to serve as the homeport for NAS Orange County until 1992 when it was transferred to NAVSEA Long Beach. In 1922, a man named Frank Broughton developed what is now North Hollywood on Signal Hill overlooking Seal Beach. This area became known as Broughton Heights because of its high quality sand beaches and dramatic cliff views. The hilltop site remained undeveloped until 1925 when developer Harry Mantle purchased it and began developing what would become North Hollywood into one of Southern California's most prestigious neighborhoods. At that time, North Hollywood consisted of only a small section of Signal Hill accessible fromthe street level through several buildings near USC campus before continuing upslope onto beyond dark skies filled with mountains behind which lay Little Tokyo and other areas not accessible from Highway 1 or any other means except through airplane or helicopter tours departing from LAX Airport). In 1936, movie mogul Louis B Mayer bought portions of North Hollywood from Mantle and began building his own studio there which would eventually become Universal StudiosCalifornia; today part of La Jolla Village Center shopping center located adjacent to UCSB Stadium park where we play our games during baseball season
