The shop also published an annual journal called "The Observatory." In 1907, The Optical Shop moved from its original location on Third Street to what is now Main Street. It became one of the most important optical stores in California because it sold equipment used by astronomers, including eyeglasses, telescopes, binoculars, microscopes and other optical instruments. In 1916, The Optical Shop merged with another business, The Camera Store. At this time, both businesses had a total area of about 20 square feet. In addition to selling camera equipment (including film cameras), The Camera Store also rented space for amateur photographers to take pictures using their own lenses and cameras. Many famous photographers from Seal Beach took advantage of this service during World War II when they needed images quickly relayed back home without having to go through Allied forces or risking capture by German troops. In 1951, Seale beach Chamber of Commerce decided that it would be more efficient if they started marketing their town's products themselves instead of hiring outside companies to do so. So they started calling themselves "The Seal Beach Business Association." This lasted until 1978 when the Chamber decided that it would be more efficient if they just continued being called "The seal beach Chamber" again because everyone knew them better than anything else!

In 1909 townsite changes were made when a new harbor was built at Seawall Boulevard between Point Loma Boulevard and First Street SE and sealers began using this new location for their operations instead of near where they caught their fish originally.

The first humans to live in Seal Beach were the Ohlone people who arrived about 4,000 years ago. The Ohlone hunted and gathered marine resources such as shellfish and sea otters for their own use and trade with other tribes. Between 1602-1606, Spanish traders visited and traded with the Ohlone people at San Salvador Point on Long Island (present-day Seal Beach). In 1853, when Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded near Lompoc in Ventura County, California by Franciscan fathers from India, many of them brought over slaves from Africa to work on ranches and farms in California. among these new arrivals were Ahumada brothers José y Gabriela and Rafael de la Torre y Arguello who named their community La Isla del Mismo Nombre (thesame name as Mission San Gabriel) after their ship "La Isla" which they had chartered from Spain. After land was acquired by the mission trustees at Rancho Santa Ana de Anza between 1854-1858, they named it also La Isla del Mismo Nombre (the same name as Mission San Gabriel), but this time including all of what is now Orange County except for portions of Irvine Valley that became part of Los Angeles County in 1893. In 1857 Captains John Sloat and Gideon Haight explored various coasts coastal United States during their voyage around Southern California under Admiral George Dewey’s command while visiting Refugio Channel where they sighted a “seal” or “toothed” island lying off shore about 28 miles southeast of Point Mugu on October 15th They called this islands Chuparral Reef because there was no living thing upon it until seals learned how to dive using eel lines after harassing local sea lions nesting at depths up to 30 feet! A whaling expedition led by captain John Davenport reached this island during his trip around Northern California before he died suddenly off the coast on March 17th aboard USS Dolphin off Point Reyes Peninsula some 190 miles south eastof Seal Beach just south of Tubbs Glacier National Park . His shipwreck remains today within Tubbs Glacier National Park which forms most eastern boundary between Marin County & Los Angeles County.. It has been suggested that Captains Sloat & Haight discovered Chuparral Reef rather than Chuparral Reef being sighted by Captains Davenport because Captain Davenport had already sailed past it late Saturday night about 120 miles southwestof Seal Beach while sailing SS Virginian under tow behind USS President Dwight Eisenhower morning April 14th 1951 while en route from Japan At 1 p m Sunday Apr 15th 1951 while anchored offshore dredging Buena Vista Shoal 50 NM WSW Seminole Bank Gulf Of Mexico slackened towline starboard side due Northwesterly current caused refloat Sheared bottom lip abrasion leaving only 3 mooring lines remaining attached ballast chain 2 anchors each Attached side chainsawed through single line shears abrasion removing both anchors allowing her free drift out into deep water A research vessel blessed by then Bishop Emeritus Francisco Gomez since converted into an Evangelical Lutheran Church - Catholic Parish hovered over package floating sun roof down onto deck providing shade possibility for photos As we watched our package slowly drifted away towards mile marker 138 I decided then & now photo opp would be taking place right next to oldUSS Dolphin proof positive NO tsunami WARNING however tide started moving quickly ocean current shifted rapidly making photo possible Wave conditions changed so boat could not stay put any longer
