Soon after Captain Thomas’ arrival at Seal Beach, seal hunting rapidly grew into an important economic activity hereabouts. Today’s Seal Beach is home to many interesting historical landmarks including: USS Constitution Museum – This museum tells the story of America’s first ship (the Constitution) and her crew during World War II when she was used as a training vessel off the coast of Southern California; USS Kings Bay Museum – Home to artifacts related to both local history and naval history; USS San Francisco Museum – One of only three ships preserved from battle on July 7th 1944 when USS San Francisco fought off Japanese forces during World War II; City Hall – A beautiful Gothic Revival building which served as headquarters for various government bodies until 1959; now it houses offices for City Manager; Olympic Stadium - Home stadium for both American football (the Los Angeles Rams) and track & field events (the LA Olympic Games); and finally… seals! As mentioned before, Seal Beach has several prominent seals including: The Golden Seals which live at The USS Constitution Museum while also having their own exhibit inside the museum; The Black Pearl which resides at Kings Bay Museum while also having its own exhibit inside that museum; And Finally The White Sea Creeps which reside at Olympic Stadium while also having their own exhibit inside that stadium….
