The first post office in Seal Beach opened on November 6, 1888. The current post office building was built in 1922 and is also currently used as a schoolhouse. In 1915, Seal Beach hosted its first surf contest which attracted over 100 participants from around California and Nevada. In 1951 Seal Beach became an incorporated city under state law following passage of the UPNL Act which granted cities such power to regulate commerce within their borders without prior vote by voters. As an incorporated city Seal beach has been able to enjoy many benefits such as: full funding for public education; representation in city council; ability to pass ordinances regulating business activity;and more flexibility when it comes to zoning regulations

In 1945, when World War II ended, Seal Beach became an American military base and remained that way until 1990 when it reverted back to its original name of Seal Beach. Today, the town is home to a small population of retirees and cultural tourists who visit the local lighthouse and Museum of History.
Seal Beach is a town in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 1,571 at the 2010 census. Seal Beach is located on the southern coast of Orange County and is bordered by Newport Beach to the north and Westminster to the south. The first Europeans to visit Seal Beach were Spanish missionaries in 1795. Portuguese sailors also visited in 1699. The name "Seal Beach" was given to it by Captain John Latham after he found a small seashore near present-day Seal Beach while sailing from San Diego back to England in 1802. He used the beach as a place for fishermen to rest their vessels before continuing their journey home. In 1834, William Mulholland built his first house on what is now called Point Sur Boulevard (now an intersection of State Street and Morro Bay Boulevard). In 1836, he developed what is now known as Mulholland Park and built several homes there including one which still stands today - called "Mulholland House". It originally consisted of 4 rooms with a single bed each and served as the home of mulatto (mixed race) residents until 1922 when it became part of Channing Park School District No. 6 prior to its annexation into Orange County by county government in 1960. In 1870s, local business interests donated land southwest of Anza Avenue for development into Seal Beach proper along Pacific Coast Highway then known only as Anza Boulevard between Harbor Drive and Midway Drive NW (). That same year saw completion of construction on Oregon Avenue - later renamed Pacific Coast Highway - which ran parallel to Anza Avenue from east-west across downtown Seal Beach before turning northeast towards Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Company's plant at Jacklin Road (). This important commercial corridor remains today with numerous shops, restaurants, hotels and other businesses lining both streets today
