This move is partially attributed to changing economic conditions which made agriculture less profitable than it had been during World War II while recreation opportunities grew more available outside of town limits. In recent decades, Scotts Valley has seen growth as a bedroom community for San Diego County while maintaining its longtime cultural influences such as music festivals and arts events held at various venues throughout the year.
