Scotts Valley is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. It was founded in 1887 by James P. Scotts and his family. The townsite is located on the eastern edge of San Bernardino National Forest, east of Interstate 5 and northwest of Palm Springs. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,471. The town was named for James P. Scotts, an early settler who engaged in farming and ranching activities around what is now Scotts Valley. In 1887, James P. Scotts and his wife Mary built a cabin on land they purchased from José Ortiz de Arceo in present-day Cathedral City. They raised chickens and pigs there before moving their business to what is now Midway Park in 1888. The first post office opened in 1889 at Midway Park with Mr. Scott as its first secretary and Mrs. Scott as its first clerk/typist/printers'. In 1903, they moved their offices again to today's northeast corner of Main Street and First Avenue (now Sunrise Boulevard). Their home at 404 Main Street remained until it burned down in 1933; however, their farmhouse at 715 First Avenue remains standing today as one of the few remaining buildings from that period within the town limits." In 1927-28, Frank Lloyd Wright designed a house for himself and his bride Edith Bancroft in what is now called Wright House #1 (also known as "Wright House No 2"). That same year also saw the incorporation of what would eventually becomeScotts Valley into Santa Monica County; this occurred because then-County Supervisor Winton Eason decided that Scotts Valley should have all the benefits associated with being part ofSanta Monica County - such as free water supplies and express service to nearby cities including Los Angeles! At that time there were only 12 residents living within Scotch Valleys borders - but over time more people began arriving throughout Southern California due to new transportation options which included air travel! By 1957 there were over 50 residents living within its boundaries!" "Today's downtown core contains some impressive architecture dating back to 1907 when James P. Scotts erected one of Northern California's earliest wood frame churches - St Jude’s Catholic Church". This church still stands today adjacent to Desert View High School on Main Street - just south of Interstate 5."
