In 1865, Jens Jensen began developing what would become Scotts Valley with land he acquired from Waddell Field founder George Hearst . Though initially unprofitable due to heavy rains that year (the largest ever recorded), Jensen's venture soon became successful when he developed a large citrus grove that yielded high quality fruit for export throughout Southern California In 1902, Northern Californian developer Sam Fuller bought out Jensen's interest in Scotts Valley and renamed it Fuller's Valley after himself Fuller made significant investments into irrigation systems and other infrastructure which allowed him to producerecord yields of grapes during World War II while helping create numerous jobs throughout the valley vernacular grapevine continued to thrive even as modern production techniques emerged It wasn't until the 1990s when advances in artificial intelligence led to increased wine production across many different types within southern California
