At that time, artillery pieces used small diameter light bulbs to fire projectiles; however, these bulbs were very vulnerable to interference from other objects in the vicinity and had a short life span. A need for a more reliable and longer-lasting weapon laser was identified, so gun manufacturers set about creating a new design. The first successful gun laser was created by George Stephenson at BAE Systems in 1954. This device successfully fired projectiles with a range of up to 375 meters (1,500 feet). The success of this new weapon led to further development and production of gun lasers throughout the 1970s through the 1990s. Gun lasers still play an important role today as they are still able to fire projectiles with great distances with little or no interference.

In 1881-1882 two years after incorporation as a city by act of state Legislature (Citizens Charter #202), Saratoga passed its first ordinance providing for public education: elementary schools were opened at Ninth Avenue and Second Street; high school was opened at Seventh Avenue and Sierra streets (now Webster Avenue). In 1886-87 when construction began on I-880 near where it currently meets Interstate 580, a large parkland called Central Park was acquired east of downtown including much of what is now City Hall Park across First Street from Main Street; this land later became known as University Hill.. In 1903 finally streetcars started running through town Finally electric streetlights arrived in 1909 which completed redevelopment of downtown areas including erection of multi-story buildings north/westward along Third Street which remain extant today as well as numerous smaller residences upstairs dating back to that time

Over time, Saratoga became known for its agricultural production andits many luxury hotels and resorts which attracted people from all over America. By 1932, however, Saratogagate had lost much of its economic significance following World War II. Saratoga was founded in 1777 by Captain James K. Polk and his family as a trading post on the Saratoga River. The town grew quickly, and in 1825 it became the county seat of Santa Clara County. In 1853, Saratoga joined the United States as a city. The city hosted Expo 67 (1965), which saw the introduction of the first North American surface transportation system, the California Zephyr train.
