Many businesses have been established in Santee since its incorporation including KNBR-FM radio (Kern County's public radio station), two grocery stores/cafes/barbecues/delis (), several churches (Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church & First Baptist Church), several schools (including Monterey Bay Unified School District's KUSD-TV feeder school) and one hospital (). The current mayor is Ricardo Sanchez who has held office since January 1st 2020

The first post office in Santee was established on December 1, 1853. The original postmaster was Mrs. Fenton Hutton. In 1861, the Santee Telegraph Company was organized and began transmitting messages from Santee to other towns in Oregon County. In 1865, the Southern Pacific Railroad built a line through Santee that connected it with Portland, Oregon. With this new transportation artery at our doorstep, businesses and residents quickly began booming and citizens developed a strong sense of community identity which has perpetuated throughout history. The most significant event during the early years of Santee's growth occurred when Mr. Sutter donated land for what would become known as City Park which still stands today - one of Santa Clara County's earliest major public parks! This park provides excellent recreational opportunities for local citizens and visitors alike as well as providing valuable open space for education and cultural events such as art shows and plays etcetera...
