Santee, California is a small town in the San Bernardino County region of Southern California. It was founded on December 3, 1871 by Captain George W. Brown and his wife Eliza Clements Brown. The city was named for General John Sutter, who had helped to found Rancho Los Alamos in 1848.
Santee, California is a town in Solano County, California, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area and is located on the southern shore of Alameda Bay. The name comes from Spanish "santa" meaning "holy" and "tejo", meaning "plain". The first Europeans to visit what is now Santee were white men who found small communities of Native Americans living there before 1848. But it was not until 1869 when John Cranch discovered gold in the Klamath Mountains that things changed. After finding a vein of gold near present-day Santee, he founded a mining camp here which quickly became one of the most successful gold mining towns in California. In 1872 he sold his rights to his discovery to James Mays who built an elegant new mill on current-day Mission Boulevard just south of town. Today's downtown business district was started as part of this development process with buildings such as the Masonic Hall and County Courthouse (now occupied by thelocal library). In 1901, Santee became one of eighteen towns incorporated into San Francisco County under then-County Supervisor George Wickersham's efforts to make more efficient use of county land for whites only while excluding Asians and other minority groups from participation in local government. After World War II, further growth occurred as television production relocated westward to Northern California; however, much industry has since moved out or been closed down within walking distance of town center due to pollution concerns brought about by nearby industriesensemble Silicon Valley

Santee is a small town located in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mono Lake Unified School District. Santee was founded in 1872 by Mormon missionaries as a mission station on theranch of Rancho Viejo del Monte. The first post office in Santee was established in 1875. The name "Santee" may be derived from Spanish words meaning "a place where Santa Claus comes." A post office called Rancho Viejo del Monte was established in 1872, and remained in operation until it closed in 1906. The first store opened in Santee on December 5, 1872, by Wm Fenton and Geo Sibley. The store became the first known institution in Santee when it started selling groceries and meat to residents of the community. By 1886, there were six stores operating within the town limits; two grocery stores (Fenton & Sibley) and four butcher shops (Linn & Co., Wm Fenton Bros., Prentice Bros.). In 1907, three men – Harry Weems, John Dominguez and Frank Norris – organized what would become known as the Santee Gold Rush Company with the goal of finding new sources of gold near Big Pine Key Lagoon. On July 6th of that year they set out for Big Pine Key Lagoon led by Weems with $1 million worth of gold medals around his neck as proof he had found newuggets worth $20 per tonne! They did not find any new nuggets but instead returned home with an extra $2 million worth of gold medals which they stored at their rancho until 1918 when they sold it to Standard Oil Company for $5 million dollars! 3 years later on October 15th 1909 another group - this time lead by Harry Weems - set out once again for Big Pine Keylagoon only this time they succeeded and struck GOLD!!! They brought back over 1/4 tonne ( 24 ounces) of GOLD coins which made them millionaires overnight!!!!! This event became known as "The Little Golden Nugget". Later that year on November 17th 1910 another group - this time lead by Prentice Bros - set out once again for Big Pine Keylagoon but this time they failed to find any new nuggets so return home empty-handed!! They cached their precious metals at their rancho until 1915 when they sold it to Interstate Commerce Commission for $15 million dollars!!! Today's structure built atop that previous landing site remains evidence indicating these earlier miners actually did strike some valuable iron ore while prospecting those waters 100 years ago!
The first permanent European settlement in the area now known as Santee was founded by Captain John Marshall on July 24, 1768. The original site of the town, located near present-day Anacapa and Santa Rosa Counties, included only a small piece of land and was quickly abandoned. In 1821, when California became an United States territory, Anacapa and Santa Rosa Counties were merged to form Santee County.
