The Santee Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1881 by John C. Fremont, a gunsmith and rifle dealer. It is the oldest continuously operating rifle and pistol club in California. The club has been meeting at the same location on First Street in Santee since 1881. In 1898, the club sponsored the first competitive shooting event in California. The event was held at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts, and featured 16 rifles and six pistols from various clubs across the state. At that time, it was considered an important event because it helped to promote responsible gun ownership and hunting habits among Californians. In 1905, Santee became part of the United States as a result of the Gadsden Purchase Agreement. As part of this agreement, America acquired over 1 million acres of land in California including Santee Island which served as a military reservation until 1919. This acquisition increasedgun violenceand crimein California, leading to calls for stricter gun control laws throughout America. It wasn't until after World War II that NRA began to play a larger role in American society by sponsoring public education programs about firearms safety and Second Amendment rights. In 1949, NRA donated $10K to help finance the construction of a new range facility on nearby Anacapa Island which has become one of NRA's most popular tourist destinations worldwide. Santee, California is a small city located in Mendocino County, California. The population was 7,039 at the 2010 census and 8,898 in 2016. It is part of the Ukiah–Watsonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Santee was founded by Russians in 1847 as a trading post on the Sacramento River. In 1851 it became an American settlement and in 1902 it became an incorporated town. The first inhabitants of Santee were Russian traders who established their post on the Sacramento River in 1847. Their mission was to trade goods with Native Americans and fur trappers living along the riverbank. By 1862, Santee had become known as a commercial center for logging operations within Mendocino County. A new courthouse and jail were built in 1865 and1871 respectively; both are now missing but have been found abandoned or used as housing elsewhere in town. In 1902 Santee incorporated as a town under the name of Ukiah after its incorporation into easier to control territory following gold discoveries nearby at Gold Hill (now quartzite) and Eureka (now Weldon). At that time, Ukiah consisted of only a few blocks of downtown with no other buildings aside from a schoolhouse which served as the town hall until 1923 when construction began on a larger building which still stands today-the Santee Civic Center (renamed Ukiah High School after 2006). During World War II, Umeå Air Force Base operated out of Santee Army Depot here until 1945 when it moved to Redwood City, California. After World War II, many local businesses closed down due to conversions to single family homes or conversion into agricultural land usage such as cattle grazing or crop growing etc., leaving little opportunity for economic development within Ohlone Town limits during this period although there has been some recent redevelopment taking place around Camp Simcoe Park with plans for retail/office space being developed adjacent thereto.. As recently as 2001 much development activity had taken place surrounding Camp Simcoe Park including retail/office space being developed adjacent thereto however since then there has been limited redevelopment taking place largely due to environmental concerns related to agriculture/land use alterations having occurred near Camp Simcoe Park over time while little effort has been made by either local government officials or developers aimed at addressing these concerns

Santee was founded by Pierre Dorion in 1853. The town was located on the banks of the Sacramento River, about 25 miles north of Sacramento. The population of Santee increased from 1,000 in 1853 to 3,500 by 1870. In 1875, the city became a state capital and Santee became an important railroad junction. The post office at Santee was established in 1852 and closed in 1916. The first store opened in 1854 and the first school in 1865. The town had a bank, insurance company, grain elevator, hotel and two churches by 1870. By 1914 there were 10 businesses and 100 residents. In 1916, California became a state and Santee lost its importance as a railroad junction because of prohibition laws. However, it regained some importance when the Northern Pacific Railroad built a line through Santee between Reno and Sacramento in 1922-1923. In 1933-1934 the stock market crash caused many small businesses to go bankrupt and many residents left for other parts of California. In 1937-1938 the federal government put an end to prohibition which allowed more people to live in SantEE but also made it less prosperous than before because it stopped paychecks from coming into town for manufacturers who had supplied liquor to customers during prohibition days.
