John S.Dodge, a blacksmith and gunsmith in Santee, California, patented an invention that would revolutionize the way firearms were made. The Dodge Hammer was a metal hammer designed to create sparks when striking nails or other metals with a firearm. This invention allowed for more accurate firearm function and production. In 1892, Cimarron Arms Company began manufacture of handguns in Santee. The company produced revolvers and shotguns with the dodge hammer system as their primary tooling method. This system allowed for greater accuracy and stability when forging firearms parts. In 1954, John Hargrave purchased Cimarron Arms Company and continued to produce pistols using the same forge-based method until 1984 when they switched to a water cooled forging process. During World War II both the United States Marine Corps and Army utilized the dodgehammer system for ammunition production at various locations around the world (See Allied Armaments). After the war ended there were few remaining facilities capable of manufacturing firearms utilizing this technology so it slowly faded from favor over time becoming less common in firearm production throughout North America. However, it still remains an important part ofgunsmithing today!

Santee, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. It is located on the banks of the Sacramento River, about 40 miles northeast of San Francisco and 25 miles southwest of Sacramento. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. The first European to visit Santee was Juan Bautista de Anza on September 24, 1769. He named it Providencia after his sister-in-law's hometown in Chile. A Mission San José de Asís was established in 1847 by Father Junípero Serra and Father Pedro Funes y Arellano, both Spaniards who had come downriver from Manila. The mission became an important center for missionary activity in the area and played a significant role in establishing Californian law and government. In 1853, four years after its establishment, the mission was secularized and become part of Rancho Santiago del Oro which eventually passed into private hands. In 1864, Santee became part of Nevada as part of what is now Alta California following Mexico's revolution against Spanish rule. There were few settlements outside central valley until prospectors discovered gold near present day Santee in 1848; however most colonists moved out when gold prices started to drop around that time due to overproduction by Mexican miners (and competition from US miners). On July 15th 1861 local resident Hiram Sargent donated land comprising present day Santee to build a schoolhouse with El Camino Real (Royal Road) as its main street running east-west through town center while Via Real ran north-south through town alleyways just east off SR 620/El Camino real junction). On October 6th 1861 School opened with 3 classrooms including Mrs Pemberton as teacher & 2 boys Mr Atkins & Tom Wetherbee as students; one room had been added on top of old barn! An addition also included a kitchen adjacent to school building built by Linares family & Friends for $4 per acre!! Santee Post Office opened #2 on January 20th 1870 under name "Hiram Sargent Post Office" renamed again "Santo Domingo" December 11th 1911 after Republic Act No 910 which created Northern Districts Commission within Department Of Public Works Administration under President Woodrow Wilson - see photo below: Photo courtesy United States Postal Service
