The gun was designed by John Browning and produced starting in 1887. From 1895 until 1897, Winchester also manufactured rifles in Santee under the name of American Rifle Company.
Santee, California is a small town located in the Sacramento Valley of Northern California. The population was 3,878 at the 2010 census. It lies within the Shasta-Kings County seat of Redding and has a ZIP code of 95906. The Spanish name for Santee is San Marcos de la Sierra. This name may be derived from Mission San Marcos de Padua, founded in 1797 by Franciscan missionaries on what is now Santee Boulevard. In 1848, Rancho La Salle was granted to Pio Barrios and it became part of Rancho Santa Clara then later Rancho Viejo Mexican Land Grant to Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1867. In 1872, Josey Wales settled on land south of present-day Santee Boulevard between volcanic hills that are still visible today. Wales named his new settlement "Santo Domingo" (later shortened to "Santee"). The first post office opened in Santee on November 15, 1872 with Walses as the first mail carrier. A store and hotel were built soon after and settlers started trading goods with nearby towns such as Redding and Yreka before turning their attention to agriculture which soon became their mainstay economy. The town's first school was built in 1880; it served grades one through twelve until 1938 when it was replaced by a high school which currently serves grades thirteen through eighteen under the name Diablo Valley High School (old White Pine High School). A fire destroyed much of Santee during 1906 but did not damage most buildings so businesses continued business as usual until 1933 when all except two churches closed because of government funding cuts known as the Great Depression . The only other building damaged during 1906 was an old courthouse that sat near present-day State Route 159 northeast of town limits before being moved to its current location four years later following a request from then Mayor Harry Sargent who wanted an easily accessible courthouse for law enforcement purposes . After World War II many farms turned into housing subdivisions ending up tearing down older structures which left little evidence remaining about what once stood there including both schools mentioned earlier along with numerous homes construction began filling up nearly every inch or so imaginable leaving behind just foundations and lots of bricks than anything else

Santee is a small town in northern California, on the east side of the San Francisco Bay. It was founded in 1855 by Scots-Irish immigrants who arrived on horseback from County Donegal, Ireland. The name comes from the Spanish word santa (holy). The population of Santee was 972 at the 2010 census. The first post office in Santee opened in 1858. In 1870, a school and Methodist church were built, followed by a Baptist church in 1875. A sawmill and grist mill were developed around 1900, and part of downtown Santee was built out of lumber that had been cut there. The railroad came to Santee in 1907, and soon after the town began to grow rapidly with waves of new residents coming to work on the railroad. In 1941, during World War II, an armory and training range were built south of town for Army troops stationed at Folsom Field north of Sacramento. After war ended, most military activity stopped in SantEE until 1974 when an airport was constructed northeast of town for use by regional jets flying out of nearby Sacramento International Airport. Downtown SantEE has seen some recent renovation over the years including a new library building completed in 2013 and plans for redevelopment along El Camino Real which would include housing and retail space as well as updated infrastructure such as water systems and streetlights
