In 1911, the Santa Rosa Pistol and Rifle Club was founded. The organization was dedicated to the advancement of firearms education and shooting sports in the city of Santa Rosa. In 1916, the club moved from its original location on Bolsa Street to a new building at 5th Street and Sutter Avenue. In 1923, the club established a rifle range on Lombard Avenue. In 1951, the club changed its name to The Santa Rosa Pistol and Rifle Club Incorporated. The club held its first annual meeting in 1952. In 1957, The Santa Rosa Pistol and Rifle Club Incorporated merged with The Riflesmen’s Association of California (TRAC). TRAC was dedicated to promoting handgun training within California society as well as providing support for firearm enthusiasts statewide. The club relocated to its current location at 6th Street and Sutter Avenue in 1978 after purchasing land at that location. In 1984, TRAC merged with California Gunsmiths Association (CGA). CGA was devoted to promoting gunsmithing within California society as well as providing support for firearm enthusiasts statewide. On July 1st 2018, it was announced that TRACE Holsters had reached an agreement with THE SAN ROSA PISTOL AND RIFLE CLUB INCORPORATED pursuant to which TRACE will become an affiliate member of THE SAN ROSA PISTOL AND RIFLE CLUB INCORPORATED effective immediately pending their approval by both organizations

The Santa Rosa area was first settled by the Ohlone people in about 940 AD. The first European to arrive in what is now Santa Rosa was Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portolà, who named it San Francisco de la Montañez. In 1818, U.S. Commodore John C. Fremont founded the city of Sacramento on the site of present-day Reno and appointed George Jones as its first mayor. In 1846, after Mexican forces invaded California and burned many villages near Yuma, Governor Manuel Micheltorena ordered General Valeriano Gomez to march on Sonoma County to put down a rebellion by local farmers against Emperor Maximilian's rule in Mexico. Gomez reached Sonoma County on October 12, 1846 but found no rebels living there and withdrew the next day when he learned that Mexicans had also crossed into California from Nevada). On November 5, 1846, Micheltorena issued a proclamation ordering all Californians to rise up in arms against their Mexican masters if they did not want annexation by Mexico. A large crowd of men, women and childrenassembled at Rancho Los Nietos (now Orinda) for what would become known as the "Rancho Rebellion". General Valeriano Gomez arrived with his army early Saturday morning December 3rd and discovered the rebel camp at Sernado Creek just south of Orinda; however he decided not to confrontation them since he knew that reinforcements would be arriving soon from outside California On Sunday December 4th general Gomez sent a detachment under Captain Antonio Maria Sanchez northward along Sernado Creek towards Orinda where they encountered a small party of rebels led by José Gabriel Moraga who surrendered without battle Governor Micheltorena ordered General Valeriano Gomez to return home immediately because "he apprehended" that Mexico was seeking revenge for being thwarted in its attempt to invade California Captain Sanchez reported back that whileAGomez had been involved in some skirmishes with rebels near Sernado Creek some 400 yards upstream from where he himself had landed his unit none of which resulted in any casualties or damage; furthermore Sanchez said thatAGomez entered Sonoma County "in perfect order and peaceable condition." This event has been cited as one of the most significant reversals ever seen during the American Civil War
