Santa Rosa is a small town in the Central Valley of California. It is located on the eastern edge of the San Joaquin Valley, about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Fresno and 66 miles (103 km) northwest of Sacramento. The population was 14,903 at the 2010 census. Santa Rosa has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 5,000 years. In 1825, Poston Ranch was established in what is now downtown Santa Rosa. The first white settler in Santa Rosa was George Dickenson in 1827. By 1850, there were three churches and 20 residents living in downtown Santa Rosa. The town had a school and two stores by 1860. A post office opened in 1865 and became known as "Santa Rosalia." In 1872, James Wignall laid out a streetscape for what is now downtown Santa Rosa which included four blocks north of where present-day Market Street meets School Street. This area would become home to most of the businesses that would thrive throughout the late 19th century and early 20th century such as J & P Brewery (founded 1876), First National Bank (1877), Al Smith's Cigar Store (founded 1886), Kineo Mining Company (founded 1889), Heublein Drug Stores Incorporated (1892), American Fertilizer Company Limited and Wells Fargo & Co., which moved from its original location on Second Avenue across from Kineo Mines to their current location on Third Avenue east of Interstate 580 beginning in 1978. At this time, Downtown Santa Rosa also boasted one of only two movie theaters still extant within viable distance of any populated center—the Regal Cinema on Railroad Avenue just south of City Hall Square—and also boasted one or more dozen feed stores supporting local agriculture while other businesses thrived during this period including several banks with national headquarters located nearby like Wells Fargo & Co., American Fertilizer Company Limited, Heublein Drug Stores Incorporated and Al Smith's Cigar Store which remain extant today as part of Quaker Heights Business Improvement District No 1 today

In 1895, American astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered that nearby galaxies were being illuminated more brightly by stars than had been thought possible due to their proximity to Earth. This led him to develop hisHubble telescope, which has since provided us with invaluable insights into our universe’s evolution. Santa Rosa is a city in Southern California, located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. It is named for the Santa Rosa Mountains, which are located in the city's west side. The first Europeans to visit what is now Santa Rosa were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and his men on October 15, 1769. They were looking for new land to explore after their return from exploring Mexico City's Valley de las Pulgas (Valley of Flowers). After landing at what is now known as Pier 39 on November 3rd, they built Fort San Lorenzo and began trading with natives. On January 25th, 1821 Commodore John Doolittle sailed into Santa Rosa Bay and anchored near present day Pier 39 while he explored southern California. He sent letters home announcing his discovery of "Island of America". When he returned to San Francisco in February 1824 he had found that Mexico had already claimed California by proclamation! In 1848 various groups of Americans came together to form the United States Marines who fought in Mexican–American War against General Antonio López de Santa Anna. On December 12th, 1850 Camilo Cámpora founded Rancho Rinconada del Rey along the coast about 7 miles south of downtown Santa Rosa. The first post office opened in 1896 under name Dos Pueblos Station then changed its name to Santa Rosa due to objections from another group who felt it should be called “Rinconada” because it was about 5 miles long from east to west rather than just 2 miles wide like most places around there then! In 1912 oil sprang up around Muir Beach after a well was drilled by millionaire Edwin Drake; this led some businesses such as The Grateful Dead set up shop here including one year they played at an old military airfield used by USAAF bombers during World War II known as Rinconada Air National Guard Base until it closed down in 1990 when all airfields within commuting distance were automated! Today you can find souvenir stores here selling items related to history like t-shirts depicting scenes or people associated with oil production or local history like buttons or mugs made out of recycled materials! Santa Rosa was founded in 1853 on the land that is now downtown Santa Rosa. It was named after General José Joaquin Santa Rosa, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as a U.S. Senator from California. The city's first store opened in 1855. A post office was established in 1865, and a railroad station opened in 1876. In 1915, the city annexed neighboring Donner Lake Valley and formed the new town of Santa Rosa-Donner Lake.
