Santa Rosa, California is a city located in Tulare County, California. The population was 497 at the 2010 census. Santa Rosa was founded by Mexican Americans in 1847 as Rancho Cañon del Oro. In 1854, the United States government acquired the Rancho San Pablo and its surrounding land for national defense purposes. The U.S. military built Fort Point on Monterey Bay to monitor Mexican shipping near Guerra Mesa and Sorrento Strait during the 1850s. In 1867, the northern end of Rancho San Pablo was transferred to José Antonio Mejía and his brother Francisco Mejía from Pico de la Hora Ranchos south of Santa Rosa. They named their new rancho Santa Rosa del Norte after General José Antonio Carrillo's victory over Mexico at Palo Alto on November 17, 1846 during the Alta Californias campaign of 1846-47. The adobe buildings that still stand in downtown Santa Rosa were constructed between 1870 and 1880 with funds raised by subscription from citizens who leased or bought property within what is now downtown Santa Rosa from Juan Bautista Descalzo and Manuel Nieto respectively. The first post office in Santa Rosa opened on December 2, 1870; it was called Reyes Creek Post Office because it served as a stop along the main Truckee-Reno Road (later State Route 99). On February 14, 1886, an act of Congress changed the name toSanta Rosa City Council Act No. 8 of 1886 designated March 15th as "Festival Day" reverted back to its original name two weeks later when town officials changed proclamation number 5 from A M D F E S T O R M COUNTY TO SANTA ROSA CITY COUNCIL NO 71885 pursuant to resolution passed by council #5/4/86 which read "This ordinance increases festivities throughout our community observing Anniversary of gift by Governor James Hahn." The growth of Los Angeles and other cities due to mineral discoveries in nearby Kern County led to pressure on local farmers for more land in addition to their traditional crops such as citrus fruits and corn cribbage production; this caused most Native American families living within easy commuting distance of Los Angeles to move away early in what is known as Mission Land Rush 67 (1917-1920). As a result of this change in culture many businesses closed down across much rural Northern California while some prospered until they moved out when regulations came into effect requiring schools be built on certain parcels which disrupted farming communities' economies thereby violating Indian Trust Lands Sales Agreement pursuant to Title V – Section 102(a) et seq.; see also: White Settlement Order No.(2) - January 21st 1915 for extensive description During World War II munitions plants were established southeast of town includingPoint Connery Arsenal Ammunition Planténemyeral Army Airfield no longer exists today but remnants can be seen near mile marker 84 east off I-5 just past US 395
Santa Rosa is a city in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 37,651 at the 2010 census. Santa Rosa is located on the border of Sonoma and Napa counties. The city's official website calls it "the cultural and economic center of Northern California." The first permanent English-speaking community in what is now Santa Rosa County was founded by Captain George C., Browne in 1795 as part of an effort to improve trade with Russia. George's Bay became known for its red wine, which made it a popular destination for tourists and vineyard owners alike. In 1801, Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza explored the area and named it La Cañada de Santa Rosa after Saint Rose of Lima – a venerated patron saint of winegrowers in New Spain – because he thought the land might be rich in grapes. In 1853, a group of farmers led by Jephtel Hurd began developing what would become downtown Santa Rosa. They named their town San Rafael del Norte after General Rafael Vázquez Cerdeño who had helped them win their skirmish against Mexican forces near Menlo Park two years earlier. The Sánchez brothers started making soap from barley here around 1870; this process gave rise to the first commercially processed soap produced outside England or America.
